State Republican Platforms: Foreign Policy & Defense
These are excerpts from Platforms and Resolutions passed by various state Republican parties this year. They show how far out of the mainstream are the extremists that have taken over the Republican party.
Republicans: Out of the Mainstream on Foreign Policy and Defense:
-
Texas: The Party believes it is in the best interest of the citizens
of the
United States that we immediately rescind our membership in, as well
as all
financial and military contributions to, the United Nations.
- Nevada: We support the United States rescinding its membership in the
United Nations and all subsidiary agreements and treaties. We also
support
the United Nation's headquarters and staff being removed from United
States
soil.
- Iowa: We support the immediate and full U.S. withdrawal from the
United
Nations and oppose any U.S. funding of the United Nations. We believe the United States must with drawl [sic] from all
international monetary and financial institutions and agency [sic]
such as
IMF and The World Bank.
We encourage the United States to take back and keep the Panama
Canal.
- Nebraska: We object to the assignment of women to combat units.
We support a return to the policy of the United States
military
to exclude homosexuals as a matter of food order, morale, and
discipline.
- Texas: We oppose the federalization and militarization of local
police
forces, for example wearing black uniforms and/or army boots and
fatigues.
- Nevada: We oppose openly gay individuals serving in the military.
- North Carolina: We support efforts to prevent: removing the ban of
homosexuals in the military. We support efforts to
prevent:
... women in front-line combat roles. The Party
believes it
is in the best interest of the citizens of the United States that our
nation
immediately rescind its membership in, as well as all financial and
military
contributions to, the United Nations.
- Oregon: We support the exclusion of homosexuals from the military
service
in order to maintain an effective fighting force while preserving the
morale
and dignity of our Armed Forces.
The United States would benefit both politically and
economically,
with the removal of the United Nations facilities to another site and
the
elimination of the budgetary burden from the taxpayers of the United
States.
- Texas: We support re-establishing United States control over the
Canal in
order to retain our military bases in Panama, to preserve our right to
transit through the Canal, and to prevent the establishment of Chinese
missile bases in Panama.
We urge the repeal of NAFTA and GATT and withdrawal from
membership
in the WTO.
- Utah: Therefore, be it resolved: ...that the Panama Canal remains
sovereign
United States territory, and that the United States retain ownership
and
control of the Canal and all assets previously associated with the
Canal and
its defense.
- Wisconsin: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Republican Party
of
Wisconsin... So as to maintain order, urges that service personnel who
practice homosexual activity be prohibited from service.
Now,
therefore, be it resolved that the Republican Party of Wisconsin...
Supports
prohibitions against placing our troops under foreign command at any
time
and against involvement with U.N. peace-keeping missions and other
military
missions with questionable interest to the United States or its
citizens...
