Dallas County Democrats
State Republican Platforms: Reckless Corporations
These are excerpts from Platforms and Resolutions passed by various state Republican parties this year. They show how far out of the mainstream are the extremists that have taken over the Republican party.
Republicans: Protecting Reckless Corporations:
-
Illinois: We support enacting legislation designed to discourage
unwarranted litigation. Such tort reform measures at the state level
are
important, yet state legislation alone is not sufficient. We commend
Governor George W. Bush for his staunch support of tort reform
measures at
the federal level.
- North Carolina: We support tort reform, including the elimination of
excessive punitive damages and limits on medical malpractice awards.
- Hawaii: Hawaii's Republicans advocate: ... Pursuing tort and
litigation
reform to protect businesses, individuals and state and county
government
from frivolous lawsuits that tie up the courts and drive up costs to
businesses, consumers and taxpayers.
- Iowa: We believe in tort reform. We believe the government should
stop
contracting with outside plaintiffs' attorneys to sue legitimate
industries.
... We support abolishing federal class action lawsuits.
- Minnesota: We support the following reforms: Limiting unreasonable
monetary
awards and attorney's fees.
- Oregon: Therefore we fully support the restriction of third party
tort
liability.
- South Carolina: We support: ... Tort reform as the basis for real
automobile insurance reform.
- Washington: We support: ... Limits on court-awarded medical
malpractice
damages and tort reform to bring down costs.
- Wisconsin: Be it further resolved that we place a $100,000 cap on
punitive
damages awards in medical malpractice lawsuits.
- Wyoming: Supports action by the Wyoming Legislature to gain the
constitutional authority to cap punitive tort award damages in the
State of
Wyoming.
