State Republican Platforms: Census

These are excerpts from Platforms and Resolutions passed by various state Republican parties this year. They show how far out of the mainstream are the extremists that have taken over the Republican party.

• Georgia: We hereby resolve to urge and instruct our elected representatives to support legislation that would limit the required census questions to those required by the Constitution and make answering all questions voluntary.
• Wisconsin: The Republican Party of Wisconsin believes that the U.S. census, as presently administered, is an invasion of privacy, and that the census is being misused to provide the federal government with information to support unnecessary government spending.
• Texas: The Party opposes any attempt by the United States Census Bureau to obtain any information beyond the number of people residing in the dwelling at the time of the census and in accordance with Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution. We strongly support counting each citizen and urge elected officials to resist taking a census by any other method.
• Wisconsin: We also call upon Congress to vigorously oppose any attempts to conduct the census by statistical sampling, which is unconstitutional and would invite corruption.
