Saturday - July 20 2002 has come and gone, so has the DAHS Class of 1960 Class
Members' 60th Birthday Party. As the attendees were making their way to leave the
Party, they all commented that they had a very enjoyable time at the Party.
The
DAHS Class of 1960 Class Members' 60th Birthday Party was celebrated on Saturday
- July 20, 2002, since most of the DAHS Claass of 1960 Class Members would turn 60
years young sometime in 2002. The Party started at 1:00PM, and the last attendees
left around 10:30PM.
The Class Member's 60th Birthday Party was similar to
how the Class Member's 50th Birthday Party was put together. The main food items
were pork BBQ, (rolls were provided to make sandwiches), meat balls in a pasta style
tomato sauce, baked beans, potato salad and macaroni salad. There were also pies,
other desert items and of course a birthday cake. Beer and soft drinks were be provided.
Everyone attending was invited to bring an appetizer or side salad or dessert, or
other food item.
The cost of the Party was $15.00 per person.
The attendees
were advised to dress according to the prevailing weather.
Each person attending
was REQUESTED to bring a lawn chair.
Also, each person attending was invited to
bring a swim suit and towel.
The Party was an outside event, the primary purposes
of the Party are for the DAHS Class of 1960 Class Members to celebrate their 60th
Birthday, everyone attending to have an enjoyable day and socialize with those that
they have not seen for sometime.
The DAHS Class of 1960 Class Members 60th
Birthday Party was held at Will and Ginny GERMICK's residence, 631 Riverview Court
- York, PA 17406.
.
We were entertainned by Michael E. DEARDORFF, he volunteered
to do a short taekwon do demonstration. Mike did some patterns, broke some boards,
and 'taught' some easy-to-learn and easy-to-execute self-defense techniques.
Stanley
E. BAKER, Jr. and Paul R. KISSNER did their usual best to twist everyone's arm to
purchase 50/50 tickets, at $1.00 each. Their efforts resulted in taking in $100.00
from the sale of 50/50 tickets. They drew 30 tickets, with the 1st ticket drawn (Patricia
A. AHRENS Zimmerman) receiving $25.00, and the 15 ticket drawn (Donna L. KEENER
Schrum) receiving $25.00. The 2nd through 14th tickets drawn had their choice
of a 30th-35th-40th Year Reunion Memento, as did the 16th through 30th tickets drawn.
The remaining $50.00 went into the Class Checking Account.

Comments, complaints, etc. about the time of year the Class Members
60th Birthday Party was held: *Time was just fine for us. *I think a summer gathering is great, except there is so much happening that it is difficult to avoid conflicts with schedules. *The time of the year was perfect for the Party. *Great time for a party. *It was a great time for me. As it turned out several events were going on that same weekend, which I included in my trip. Could you have it a bit cooler and a little less humid next time? *Perfect for a picnic birthday party. |
|
Comments, complaints, etc. about the communications to the Class
Members concerning the Class Members 60th Birthday Party: *Comminications were great!!!! *Very good. *Good communication. *None, as long as my e-mail provider doesn't screw things up, like it was on my return to Maine. *As I've said before, perhaps person-to-person phone call to class members still local would help the response. Maybe several teaser/reminder postcard mailings? |
|
Comments, complaints, etc. about the Class Members 60th Birthday
Party Food: *Food was delicious. *Because it was so hot I really didn't have much of an appetite (a good thing for me!), I didn't sample everything. My husband just loved the bar-b-que and the baked beans (we won't discuss the day following and his visits to the john!!) *Good. *Very good, although I ate too much. *I thought all the food was very good and a nice variety. *Great PA food, I looked forward to it and was not disapointed. *Great. |
|
Comments, complaints, etc. about the Class Members 60th Birthday
Party Entertainment: *We really enjoyed all the activity and entertainment. *I thought it was a great social event. I really enjoyed Mike's demo especially the self-defense that he taught us. *Great. *Mike's demonstration was very interesting and informative. What can be said about the amateur comedian? *Very interesting. *Mike did a a fine job. He was very informative. My only regret was that I didn't get there earlier for the other events. However, the other commitments I had just couldn't be ignored this time. |

Comments, complaints, etc. about the Class Members 60th Birthday
Party Location: *Williard's place was lovely and a good setting for the amount of classmates and spouses. *I think it was extremely generous of Willard and Ginny to host the party at their lovely home. It was a very nice setting for our socializing. It appeared those who got in the pool had a great time too. *Will and Ginny's home is ideal for an event like this. *Great location. *It couldn't have been better. I look forward to the "enhanced water falls and stream" at some future event, Willard! *Will and Ginny are perfect gracious hosts, and their abode is gorgeous. |
|
Any other comments, questions, complaints, etc. for YOUR Reunion
Planning Committee: *We enjoyed meeting everyone as we have been out of touch for so many years except for the 40th. Hope to be more regular after this. *Keep the good times coming. |
60th Birthday Party Communications
| 5/4/2002 from Michael E. DEARDORFF: I've been dragged into the 21st century (not without a few complaints, however) and the Deardorff household is now internet connected. I even understand a little of it !! Winter has been a little rough here. Had an emergency appendctomy in December, and still feel kind of punky at times from the surgery. However, I've gotten back into my taekwon do and hope to keep from embarrassing myself totally in July at the reunion. We'll see.......See you then! |
|
11/30/2001 from Gary M. LENTZ: Thanks for the fun invitation
for July 20th/ 2002. Definitely the fun music from the 60's...even if playing in
the "background." If we can help with food items let us know. When we look back and look forward; the best of the best was in the 60's....in my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) |
| 12/13/2000 from Michael E. DEARDORFF: Got your email. Unfortunately the Deardorff household remains 'unconnected' to the web. That's Barb's area of expertise, and she's yet to select the beneficiary of our business. I think she's also afraid I'll wind up spending all my awake moments on the web. Oh well. I can volunteer to do a short taekwon do demonstration at the birthday party as a pseudo form of entertainment. Assuming, of course, I survive till then and both legs and arms are still in relatively good working order. I could do some patterns, break some boards, and 'teach' some easy-to-learn and easy-to-execute self-defense techniques. Just an idea to consider. I liked the format of the last birthday party we had. Very informal, very casual, a lot of fun. Perhaps the committee could add some personal phone calls to those class members who seldom attend these deals along with the normal written invitations? Especially to those who still live in the immediate area. Let them know they're missed and lots of their classmates would love to see them and catch up on their history. Have a great holiday and keep up the great work you're doing for DAHS '60!!!! |
