The Flag Committee which was constituted on June 23, 1947 took some deliberate decisions  on July 14, 1947 for the National Flag which is as follows :
  • The flag of the Indian National Congress should be adopted as the National Flag of India with suitable modifications.
  • The flag should be tricoloured , with three bands horizontally arranged.
  • The colours should be in the following order saffron on top, white in the middle and the dark green at the bottom.
  • The emblem should be an exact reproduction of the wheel on the capital of Ashoka's Sarnath Pillar, superimposed in the middle of the central white band.
  • The colour of the emblem should be blue.

On July 18, 1947 committee decided that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru would place the recommendations before the house on July 22, 1947.  The resolution was carried unanimously giving us the National Flag.
