The Story of our Tiranga retold through Indian Stamps

Rashtrapathi Bhavan   On August 15, 1947 at 8:30 a.m. the swearing in ceremony took place at the now Rashtrapati Bhawan. The new Government was sworn in the central hall (now Durbar Hall). Two large size National Flags along with the Governor General's flag in deep blue with the Star of India were majestically hung in the backdrop on the wall of the hall facing the distinguished gathering.
Swatantra Bharath From 1948 onwards the flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort was started on August 15. Speaking on the occasion, Pandit Nehru made a mention of Subhash Chandra Bose's dream of seeing the National Flag hoisted on the Red Fort and regretted that he was not there to witness the day.  Netaji Subashchandra Bose
Indian Standards Institution In 1950 India became a Republic and the Tiranga was adopted as the national Flag of the Republic of India. The Indian Standards Institution brought out specifications on the National Flag in 1951. It was revised in 1964 when the metric system was adopted. The colours for the flag were defined precisely with their trichromatic values. All the flag manufacturers must conform to the specifications laid down by the ISI.
It was pandit Nehru's dream that the Indian flag be hoisted in the farthest corners of the world. He said while addressing the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, "... and I hope it will go far, not only where Indians dwell as our ambassadors and ministers, but across the far seas where it may be carried by Indian ships ...  it will take a message of freedom and comradeship, a message that India wants to be friends with every country of the world .. " SAARC
Today this dream is fulfilled. Our beloved Tiranga has reached the highest peaks, it has sailed across the globe in Trishna, covering 30,000 nautical miles in 470 days, it has gone to the poles, to space on Salyut with Cosmonaut Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma and perhaps one day it will leave the globe on board the spacecraft in search of new land and new frontiers!
