The story behind this poem is very sad.

My fathers second wife was dying and we had

gone to see her. He took us back to the station

and looked back to his home and said

to me "Its all a dream." I felt his pain and anguish.

The poem is built around the thought that we could all

just be a figment of our own imagination. Is it a dream

Are we asleep? or are we awake? Are we dreaming the dreams that we make?

Are we alive? or are we dead? Did I just think the thing I just said?

Is it reality, or all in the mind? Did we really lose the things that we find?

Is life over here, or is life over there? Do we understand and do we really care?

Beauty is in everything and all that we see, from the smallest creature to the tallest tree.

Life is simplicity or so complicated, have I just got there and how long had I waited?

Did we feel hurt? or did we feel pain? did we just go or did we remain?

Are we in heaven or are we in hell? We know there's an answer but we just can't tell.

Was that hard work or lazing around? Are we on Earth or under the ground?

Are things that shine dull or a brilliant bright gleam?

We know that we are not meant to know if it's all a dream!

Well as you approach middle age you go through "mid life crisis!" The title of this poem is taken from "The wall" when you run the marathon

everything seems to be going great when you meet a point called the wall! It comes on very suddenly and you just don't seem to be able to get over it. But you

pick yourself up and carry on until you get over THE WALL

Ten, twenty, thirty, bang it's done,

Is that all there was what happened to fun,

You didn't start to walk, you went straight into the run,

Straining under stress, responsibility weighs a ton.

Fighting, smashing, banging your head,

Trying to digest the information you've been fed,

But your not satisfied only frustrated instead,

Wondering whether to belive all you've read.

Pondering, philosophising, trying to work it out,

You've done your best of that there's no doubt,

But no one can help no matter how loud you shout,

It's true that life's a very difficult bout.

Your body rest, your mind wanders around,

Struggling to accept the answers you've found.

You question the answer with echoing sound,

Your brains in a knot, tied, gagged and bound.

You flow along with lifes river, time just flys by,

You thirst for information sieving the truth from the lie,

and as you grow older your not affraid to cry,

No suppressing your tears, letting your emotions free to fly!

Somtimes it seems the world cares not at all,

and you pick yourself up each time you fall,

You start your life on your back then you start to crawl,

and build a ladder rung by rung to get over the wall.

We all lose direction at times and get a little depressed. Usually when life

gets so routine and mundane. To avoid this it is a good idea to have as many

hobbies as you can fit in this really works to stop depression!

There was a time when I had a trmendous thirst for life,

Now all I have left is a blunted broken knife,

A time when I was oh so quick and sharp,

But now the strings have broken on my harp.

What's the problem? I wish I knew,

Ups and downs, yes I've had a few,

But I don't really think that's it,

Because I don't seem to care a bit.

I used to be so full of zest,

now I seem to have got it off my chest,

All my ambitions have disappeared,

now I don't know where I'll be steered.

I'm the only one now I know,

To take me out of it and show,

The way to new realisms and ways,

of getting out of these madness days.

I know now that it's only self pity,

Now I'll turn my town into a city,

and rise out of my selfish dust,

and breath new air and do what I must.

For there's still hope yet for me,

I was blind but now I see,

I did have a bad obsession,

I have now got rid of my depression!

This poem was one of the most difficult poems I have yet so far had to write.

I was knocked back by a tragic situation and was asked to write a poem

To try and help. I hope it did. Something special

Something special in your eyes, it's only now that I realise

Each time we say our goodbyes, I go home and my soul crys.

My mind is warm with memories, of walking with you in the breeze,

amoungst the flowers and the wise trees, I pray to God, oh why? please!

My love for you will never end, my soulmate lover and best friend

My aches and pains will never mend, I pray to God for a miracle to send

But I know that I can stand upright, for knowing you in days and night,

Your always in my second sight, you give me hope, strength and might

And when we go our seperate way, I will always be proud to say

You were mine right from the start, your lovingness is tatooed on my heart

God bless ali
