Battle Nav Situations 1

Let's introduce some shorthand for moves.
L =
F =
R =
N =
^X =
X^ =
*X =
X* =
*X* =
Seperate each part of the move by commas. So (N, N, N, N) is do nothing. (*F*, *F*, *F*, *F*) is go forward 4 times, and shoot on both sides each time. Not possible in a sloop, but is in a cutter or bigger.
For this next section, ASSUME that you've already maxed your opponent. Your opponent is not moving. Assume they're dead in the water and have no shots left. You just want to grapple them at this point.
Example 1:
This is a simple one. ^R is the easiest grapple. You could also do (F^, F^) if you're afraid of your opponent suddenly generating a forward or right turn move token.
Example 2, Facing the wrong direction:
You're facing the wrong way. Two quick right turns helps solve that. (R, R, F^) Also make sure to grapple on the right side! The enemy ship stays to your right the entire time.
Example 3, Rocks in the way:
The rock is blocking you from a quick turn. You could add a Forward to the beginning and end, eg (F, R, R, F), (F^) but that'd take 2 turns. However, notice after the first 3 moves, you can simply do another right turn to end up in front of the ship. (F, R, R, ^R).
A good defensive position
If you do decide to do the 5 move grapple, (maybe you're short of right turn tokens?), try seperating it into (F, R, N, N), (R, F^, F^, N) Why? So for the first turn, you're behind the rock and behind cover as quick as possible.
What if you want to use left turns instead? Unfortunately, those shoals at the top block your path to an easy grapple. If they weren't there, you could go (F, L, L, L), (F, F^), or (F, L, L, L), (^R)
If you're willing to take ram damage, you could use (L, L, L, F), (L^), or (R, R, L^) with 2 ram damage.
Example 4, Wind:
Without the wind, you'd simply go ^R, but in this case, the wind pushes you one square past the enemy ship. This one actually takes a few moves, (F, N, ^F). Forward into the stream, wait for the wind to push you into the right position, and then move out.
Example 5, Wind 2:
Can't do what you did last time here, you're cut off by the rocks. What you have to do here is turn into the wind, and turn out, (L, R, F^).
