Chaos Magic SRD v3.5 | ||||
Movement EffectsOne of the conveniences often used by chaos mages, the movement effect element allows the caster to move himself and others quickly through space and time, or even across different planes of existence. The difficulty of a movement element is based on distance - the further the caster wishes to move, the more difficult the element is to incorporate into a spell. It is safer for the chaos mage to move himself only, for when transporting others, then chaos mage places them at risk of damage due to exposure to primal chaos they are simply not prepared for. Chaos mages may also use a movement effect to speed up their allies, or slow down their opponents, effectively paralyzing foes at higher levels of this effect. Chaos mages may also use this effect to move objects through the air, as by the mage hand, or the Tenser's floating disc spell, or transport objects instantly, as by the teleport object spell Movement is also a lot more flexible than it is currently used, but requires some interpretation, especially where duration is concerned. When a spell with a movement effect has a duration, the chaos mage may decide that this duration affects the movement in one of two ways:
For the purposes of the movement effect, vertical elevation is more difficult than horizontal displacement, if the target is not moved to a location where he is on solid footing. That is, teleporting a creature fifty feet into the air is very difficult – teleporting a creature to a platform fifty feet into the air is not difficult at all. Unsupported vertical movement is considered five times more distant than horizontal movement for the purposes of chaos magic. This limitation is removed for willing targets of the effect, who may use movement effects to fly or levitate. MinorCasting DC: 15 Save: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Duration: Optional Continued Concentration: NoThe maximum distance it is possible for any affected subject to travel is 20ft. + 5ft. per 2 caster levels. Instead of magical movement the chaos mage may instead use this level of effect to give the spell's subject an additional move equivalent action in the round following the casting of the spell. Alternatively, the chaos mage may instead choose to deprive the subject of its next move equivalent action. ModerateCasting DC: 20 Save: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Duration: Optional Continued Concentration: NoThe maximum distance it is possible for any affected subject to travel is 100t. + 10ft. per caster level. Instead of magical movement the chaos mage may instead use this level of effect to give the spell's subject an additional partial action in the round following the casting of the spell. Alternatively, the chaos mage may instead choose to deprive the subject of its next partial action. MajorCasting DC: 25 Save: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Duration: Optional Continued Concentration: NoThe maximum distance it is possible for any affected subject to travel is 400t. + 40ft. per caster level. Instead of magical movement the chaos mage may instead use this level of effect to give the spell's subject an additional partial action in the round following the casting of the spell. Alternatively, the chaos mage may instead choose to deprive the subject of its next standart action. ExtremeCasting DC: 30 Save: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Duration: Optional Continued Concentration: NoThe maximum distance it is possible for any affected subject to travel is 1 mile + 1 mile per caster level. The caster must be familiar with the area to which he is teleporting, or the spell will automatically fail. Instead of magical movement the chaos mage may instead use this level of effect to give the spell's subject an additional full round action in the round following the casting of the spell. Alternatively, the chaos mage may instead choose to deprive the target subject of all of its actions for the duration of this spell – targets so affected are treated as if paralyzed for the duration of the spell. UniversalCasting DC: 35 Save: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Duration: Optional Continued Concentration: NoThe caster may move himself and other subjects between planes of existence. Each casting may only move a subject to a plane of existence 'next to' their current location. In addition, there is a +5 insight bonus applied to the Casting Check when moving to or from a chaotically-aligned plane, but a -5 penalty when moving to or from a lawfully-aligned plane. Chaos MovementAnyone, except for a chaos mage, affected by a chaos magic spell with an instant movement effect must make a Fortitude save DC 10 or suffer 1d8 points of subdual damage due to close proximity with the raw forces of chaos. |
