Ryuji Sakamoto
Ryuji in his Not-So-Uniform for Shujin Academy
Ryuji Sakamoto is arguably the best friend of the player/protagonist of the game and is also the first character to join up with the player in their quest of changing hearts. Ryuji, like the protagonist, is also somewhat of an outcast at Shujin Academy, because he likes to test his boundaries. He is frequently seen skipping school and also breaking the dress code with his bleached hair and sporting his t-shirt. This outcast characteristic makes an easy bond between him and the protagonist.
Codename: Skull

In the metaverse, Ryuji's codename is Skull, very obviously due to his mask being that of a skull. Ryuji's persona that he weilds is Captain Kidd. Captain Kidd is of the Chariot Arcana and mainly has Electric and physical type moves. Skull is usually a great asset all around and is a good choice to have in your party. His physical weapon is usually that of a bat, or an object of similar shape and size. His gun of choice is the shotgun.
History
Before the player meets Ryuji, Ryuji is actually less angry and more happy with his school life. Ryuji used to be on the track team, and was one of the best there. There was a big mishap with the track team having to do with Coach Kamoshida, and his team abandons him. This is a contributing factor to why he helps in the Phantom Theives first task of changing the heart of Kamoshida.
While leveling up Ryuji's confidant, you get to learn more and more about his backstory and help him overcome his past and focus on the future.
