| Here at Durden's Labrador Retrievers we strive for great temperament and conformation as well as a sound, healthy Lab. Our black female, Black Tear of Cheyene, has OFA certified hips of Good and Excellent throughout her pedigree. She also boasts MH (master hunter), SH (senior hunter) and AFC/FC (amateur field champion/field champions) in her pedigree as well as EN. CH. and NFC (see link below). She was born in South Carolina and is from the Beaver Creek and Rush Creek lines as well as having a pedigree that dates back to Dual CH. Banchory Painter. Our chocolate male, Top Notch Gunner, has great conformation, the typical blocky head, a beautiful otter tail and very loving and sweet disposition. He was born in souther Illinois and is also cousin to CH Jumpin Jack Flash. About us: My husband started breeding and training Labs, while still in high school, with a family friend. They were all field trained and boasted great hunters. Now, some years later, we've both decided to breed together. We are currently located south of St. Louis, Missouri but will be relocating to South Carolina in June of 2009 after he's obtained his two Associates Degrees. About Labs: The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation. The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an "otter" tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and its "kind," friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament. The Labrador is bred primarily as a working gun dog; structure and soundness are of great importance. The height at the withers for a dog is 22 to 24 inches; for a bitch is 21 to 23 inches. Approximate weight of dogs and bitches in working condition: dogs 65 to 80 pounds; bitches 55 to 70 pounds. The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. Our First Litter: We had our first litter on March 27, 2007. There were 3 puppies, but only 2 made it. The third was underdeveloped and had to much "gunk" in his little lungs (R.I.P. Almost a Miracle). The other two were very healthy black beauties. The first was a male weighing 1.5 lbs and the second was a female weighing 1.2 lbs. Our little girl went to a good home with a little boy who'd lost his father. At 11 wks she weighed 36 lbs. Our little boy, Black Hawk Rebel, is going to the friend that started my husband into breeding/training Labs years ago. He and his family live in N.C. and are getting settled in their new home so we will be fostering Rebel for a little while for them. Rebel is 6 months old (9/27) and has all of his adult teeth and weighs over 60 lbs. He is almost as big as his mother and he has exactly half of his mom and dad in him...not just genetically but looks and personality too! He loves to retrieve, play in water and shake paws. He sits and comes very well and has an all around great temperament and beautiful conformation. Conclusion: If you are interested in purchasing one of our puppies, or if you have any questions, feel free to email us. |
