Hi, my name
is Dominic Chu. I was born in Hong Kong(once a British colony and
now part of PRC upon the hand
over on July 1, 1997).
My
school days
I am educated at Ying
Wa College ,
one of the oldest Anglo-Chinese secondary school in Hong Kong.
Since my primary school days I had been obsessed in computers and my first
one was actually a 'palmtop' - Casio
PB110 from which I picked up my first computer language - BASIC.
I took my first computer subject at secondary 4, when most of my classmates
bought IBM PCs to do
their home work, I turned to Apple
IIe instead, given its low cost and availability of cheap hardware/softwares
at that time.
My interests in computing never stop and I took my degree course in
Computer Science at The Chinese University
of Hong Kong .
I enjoyed my four years of studies in the Department of Computer Science(now
Department of Computer Science and
Engineering). While the courses were conducted mostly in English,
we did pick up computer terminology
in Chinese. Our Chinese background is so strong that the fact even my final year project is computer speech recognition for Cantonese.
In July 1998 I just started my 2-year part-time programme of MSc (Info. Studies) at NTU School of SAS. So good to be back to school(So much homework and reading to do, too)! Come to take a look at my assigments - A report on Internet & Crime and A Practical Guide to Marketing.
July 1999 -- Time really flies and I have already completed the first year of my MSc programme. I did spend some effort on assignments like:
Compare and contrast the essential features of the DB/Text and dtSearch software Compare and contrast the essential features of the dtSearch software and HotBot Are present accounting information systems good enough?
Automatic document classification with neural networks
A information service to track e-commerce development in Singapore
Knowledge Management Applications
Welcome to your comments :-)
I joined the CUHK Alumni ( Singapore Chapter) in 1998 and attended several gatherings. See! We just enjoyed our Lunar Chinese New Year dinner together this Feb(1999) at Marriot hotel.

To learn more about my Alumni, check the magazine online.
My
Career
Right after graduation, I joined IBM
China/Hong Kong as a junior programmer and worked there for a year
and a half, and then migrated to Singapore,
where I joined IBM Singapore as an
IT specialist till now.
My home
I stayed in one of the nicest neighbourhood called Tampines.
Life in Singapore is tranquil and not as hectic as in Hong Kong, though
I see the differences are narrowing down every day.
Eating out in Singapore
is very convenient and I guarantee you can fulfil all your taste buds here
:)
During weekends I always go to swim at the Tampines
swimming complex. We got lots of community facilities here.
So far I am quite happy with my life here. Do drop by if you are
planning for a Southeast Asia tour.
