ANTI DISCRIMINATION LAW

2002-11-12

In Queensland Labor Party who has absolute power in Parliament changed

“Anti Discrimination Law”. Not everyone is happy particularly National

Party and the most of the members of the clergy.

Some people didn’t get it that most of Australian people have enough of any discrimination against citizens who think, behave or choose different style of life.

The new changes in the anti-discrimination laws will be:

1.     Closing a loophole which had allowed non-government school

and hospitals to refuse to employ gay people.

2.     Giving homosexuals living in de-facto relationships the same

legal rights as heterosexual couples by a new definition of “spouse”.

3.     Giving long-term homosexual de facto partners rights to switch

off life-support equipment, accessing to State Super Funds

and unpaid work entitlements.

4.     Ensuring atheists are not discriminated against.

5.     Making it an offence to discriminate against mothers

breastfeeding in public.

6.     Ensuring employers do not treat unfavourably people looking

after aged parents.

7.     Allowing doctors to still refuse IVF treatment to lesbians and

     single women.

8.     Extending anti-vilification laws to include sexuality and gender

identification.

Why do we need those changes? What’s happened that Queensland

Parliament went through that legislation?

If you think carefully you see that commonsense tell us that if someone

was abused because of ethnicity, sex, religion or not, age or disability

the Government rights was to do something about it, to stop not only

discrimination and racism but also abuse, which often was violent or fatal.

Conservative’s groups should ask themselves why didn’t they do anything

to stop violent abused and harassment in a first place?

Governments mostly make changes in the law, because people need

protection, particularly from abuse and harassment. It’s time to acknowledge

that any clerics of any religion has no right spreading hatred against other

people, maybe after that understanding and harmony will be living

in our hearts. These days where terrorism and violent crime reached

unbelievable high level, that was time to stop the madness of hatred

by the Queensland Government by making few changes in the anti

discrimination law. That law is about understanding and living in

harmony with respect and dignity together in our tolerant community.

Probably new changes and all anti discrimination law doesn’t satisfy

everyone but that is another step in a direction of quality and protection

of our life.
