VIOLENCE

2002-06-30

Violence these days are growing in a rapid speed around the world.

Why does that happen? Are we doing enough for stoping that very

bad trend? Very good question, but do we have any influence to create

the law, which could change or improve that situation? No.

Politicians like to focus on terrorism and make law very tough in

that matter. What is the difference between terrorism and common

violence, which cause the death of innocent people? Almost nothing.

For example common violence are bringing thousands of deaths per year.

Terrorism on the other hand can bring those numbers in one single event.

Both are breaking the law by killing innocent victims and why they are

not receiving equal approach or punishment?

If you look in a statistic than you see that more people die (I’m talking

here about developed countries) from common crime than from terrorist

attacks. Why then politicians don’t want do anything about it. I think,

because when one person is murdered that sounds like another unfortunate

lost of life. But when more people are killed, politicians start asking

yourselves: what, why, sorry, could we do something to prevent?

Why those questions are always too late?

We know very well that common crime and terrorism is simply

criminal offence. It’s not any excuse for any criminal who is killing

innocent individuals. Politicians try to make new law against people

involved with terrorism, but they don’t want do anything against common

criminals who kill people. What kind of justice is that? People involved

in a killing process should get severe sentence for such course of action.

Human life is very precious and anybody in any circumstances has no

right to take innocent life by criminals who have a sick, disgusting,

unspeakable and dreadful motives.

Fighting with any terror is not easy but politicians sometimes forget

about their duties, to look after all citizens equally.

We have two issues, which the Government should properly address:

1. International terrorism

2. National terrorism (locally common crime and terrorism)

Fighting with terrorism internationally is so difficult because of divided

world with luck of understanding people’s rights, freedom and democracy.

In that case on that front we won’t see much improvement for a long time.

Fighting with a common crime and national terrorism is easier because for

that we need only co-operate and deal with people in one country. In those

circumstances it is very easy to sit down and talk about it with groups involved,

communities and citizens. It’s easy to change or make new law against terror

and violent crime, which would protect all citizens equally, particularly victims.

But a law mostly is for punishment not for preventing crime.

That’s why the Government should have bigger involvement in preventing

any crime. We can say that the Government don’t do much or not enough in

that very important matter. Preventing crimes is a very expensive exercise,

where often we can see effects after a long period of time. Usually outcome

of that takes more time than one term in a Parliament, that’s why politicians

don’t like to put sufficient money for any kind of prevention. Of course, we

can see now some good results from the “border protection scheme, anti drugs

campaign or gun law”. That is some good examples of how preventing along

with tough law can bring very good effects.

That’s why politicians have to do more in prevention areas because in

a long term we will be having more benefit from that for our safety.

Politicians have to recognize too, that preventions mostly is meaning

“understanding”, proper identifying cause of violence and correctly

addressing that problem. That’s why our fight with terror and crime,

particularly common crime should focus on a very tough law and

prevention all together. Tough law will never get out the roots of crime,

for this reason we need preventing schemes and the law joined together

for achieving that. Politicians have to direct their attention towards innocent

victims; take appropriate understanding people rights to live their life in

peace and being surrounded by safe environment.
