FORMER COUNCIL WORKER TELLS OF "FRAUD AND CORRUPTION"
DOCUMENTS OBTAINED by the Cynon Valley Beacon have shed some interesting light on the 2001 Nantygwyddon Landfill Inquiry.

Of particular concern are allegations made by former building inspector Brian Privett that a culture of 'backhanders' existed in the highest echelons of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. Mr Privett referred to "fraud and corruption on a grand scale" going back several decades.

This explosive evidence was first revealed by Taffs Well and Nantgarw Councillor Adrian Hobson in his newsletter. We have obtained copies of Mr Privett's testimony, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. We also have the evidence given by District Auditor Paul Griffths.

To enable readers to examine the documents, we have made the information available in PDF format. Simply click the links below to download the files.

COUNCIL TAX FIGHT GOES ON
Angela Richards of Aberdare appeared in court on 6 October, contesting RCTCBC's application for a liability order for council tax on her house, as reported in our last issue.

The liability order was awarded, but Mrs Richards has vowed to fight on. She plans to appeal, and again took her protest to the Welsh Assembly on October 12, before the debate on council tax. She was met by Mike German AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, and Plaid Cymru AM Dr Dai Lloyd.
