RACISTS HIT LOCAL BUSINESSES
I'LL GO TO PRISON BEFORE I PAY FOR A HOUSE I CAN'T LIVE IN
At some time during the night of Friday 22 July, racist grafitti was daubed on the Gadlys Road supermarket, the Balti takeaway on the corner of Oxford Street and Gadlys Road, and the Lucky Star  takeaway.

It is important that anyone with information relating to these serious crimes contacts the police. For many decades the people of south Wales have welcomed people of all races and faiths into their communities. We must not let the actions of a few mindless idiots sully that proud tradition of openness and toleration.
ABERDARE WOMAN'S FIGHT FOR JUSTICE CONTINUES
Angela Richards of Aberdare has again appeared before Llwynypia Magistrates' Court for non-payment of council tax.
Mrs Richards has withheld payment of council tax levied on her house, which she claims was rendered uninhabitable during botched building work carried on the adjacent property.

An independent surveyor found that the work, carried out by a Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC-approved building firm and funded by a council grant, had caused substantial damage to the party wall. The building firm concerned is believed to have gone out of business.

For over five years Mrs Richards has been living in "temporary" accommodation, while paying council tax on both properties. At her previous court appearance she stated publicly that she was prepared to face imprisonment, rather than pay for services she is not receiving, in respect of a house she cannot live in.

Angela Richards took her protest to the Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC  offices at Clydach Vale last year. The quotation is from Coun Russell Roberts' statement after his appointment as leader of the council, and reads as follows:
"We are going to handle things with responsibility, humility and humanity and will always listen to other people because it is from the people that we have received our positions. When I look in the mirror and I see my reflection I have two ears and one mouth. I should be listening twice as long as I am speaking."
