DUBLIN'S
CYCLE PATHS Page 4

This 'contra-flow' cycle lane is in Andrew Street, one of the very few cycle lanes in central Dublin. Delivery vehicles (in this case belonging to the post office) frequently park here in the 'mandatory' cycle lane, forcing cyclists to ride into oncoming traffic. Right behind the van, is a tour bus which eventually parked on top of the bicycle marker that you can see in the foreground.

This kind of faciity needs protection against abuse such as the bollards on the left that were put in place to prevent cars parking on the footpath.

Amiens Street, this is just where a lane IS needed. Generally, cycle lanes are only provided in places where they the road is wide.

Amiens Street - there was a lane marked on the road here but the markings have been removed ......

Nice sign - but there is no cycle track. Where are the surface markings?

Marino Mart outbound - Dublin Bus drivers regularly drive with the inside wheels in the bike lane. Not only is this dangerous and obstructive but it also hastens the deterioration of the special surface and the road markings.

There is no reason why the bus shouild be in the cycle lane.

Amiens Street, outbound- this picture comes from a Dublin City Council traffic camera, note how the bus is clearly drifting into the cycle lane, about to cut off the cyclist, just passing the second bus. Luckily, the cyclist will be able to escape into the parking bay. Note also the absence of any bicycle markings in the lane.

There is no reason whey the bus should be in the cycle lane.

Fairview outbound, another traffic camera shot - cars waiting in the cycle lane, no bicycle markings in the lane.

Malahide Road, Artane, outbound -cars are allowed park end-out into the lane. Many actually overlap the lane. Note the cyclist cannot use the lane at all as it is necessary to leave a safety gap to avoid reversing cars.
This driver did see the sign?
