| This year's trip was unfortunately without Paul, who was caught up in the maelstrom of buying and selling houses. As the better map reader of the two of us (I can get us going the wrong way without any problem!) this could have presented a major and additional setback (the first being the lack of company), but rescue here came in the form of a Garmin Etrek hand-held GPS (courtesy of my sons' generosity last Christmas). On to planning, with the French 'ter' regional rail service which offers free transport for cycles forming an essential ingredient. Paris it was to be, but given the time available, and the consistent ability of my derriere to decide the max hours cycling possible in a day, I decided to start pedalling from Amiens. Eurotunnel presented a few hiccups with booking problems, but all went well in the end. Why Paris? Well, it gave me a focal point as a destination, and as I have business clients based there also the chance of some conversation, and the odd business lunch/dinner.... well, why not? So, it's the same as previous years. Click on the names on the map on the left to see relevant pictures and text. You can start at Calais and work your way through page by page if you want to do the whole trip from beginning to end (why??), or you can just pick locations at random and dodge back and forth! A couple of unexpected interludes which will be revealed at the appropriate time of each - but for tasters/teasers think mints with holes for one, and giant puppets from space for another...! Once again, and for another year, I hope you enjoy the ride! All the best John PS - if you have any questions or would like more information about this trip then please email me by clicking here |
