| The humble potato has its day! Montdidier's 'man of the moment' was one Antoine-Augustin Parmentier who gained fame through his love and promotion of the potato - imprisoned and being fed three slices a day of the vegetable caused all this. Interested? Well let me direct you to more enlightening facts about the man by clicking here - and also learn how to make 'Potage Parmentier'!! Parmentier's statue dominates the far end of Montdidier high street, and access to the older part of the town with church and priory. Sadly, I unwittingly relied on the Internet to give me access to information about Montdidier ( it's normally so good!), but it has proved impossible to find much so far, just a bit about the church (click) so you will have to be content with the pictures only - unless I find something later (next time I'll try to remember to take notes when I am there). |

| Most of the photos were taken the following morning, with a glorious dawn heralding the day. The view across the countryside below Montdidier was taken from the foreground of the church's western portal. Then there is the picture of what I am sure was called 'The King's House'. There was a great description on a notice board of how the king ripped down the original castle to provide himself with something more comfortable and pleasing, however, as yet I have not been able to locate anything at all about this landmark building on the Internet. A small yet interesting town overall with a grand, commanding, elevated position that affords some splendid views across the surrounding countryside |
