Love

Grandiflora 5'

Unknown x 'Redgold'

Scarlet red with silvery white reverse. 3.5" blooms with 35 petals and a slight rose fragrance.

JACTWIN: Warriner, 1980; AARS Winner 1980

A truly lovely (no pun intended) red and white rose! 'Love' is one of the trifecta of roses by Bill Warriner which swept the AARS awards in 1980. (The other two roses being named 'Honor' and 'Cherish'.) The blooms are exhibition form though a bit small for competition and are borne mostly singly on very long stems. The silvery-white reverse stays true to color with no fading, which is just one of the things I really like about this rose. Petal substance is good too so this makes a very nice cut flower. Foliage is dark green and glossy. Growth is bushy and upright.

Plentiful blooms with healthy foliage makes 'Love' a good garden choice. The blooms are perfect even if they are too small to exhibit. The petals are very much like velvet and remind me in texture of 'Black Magic'.

ARS Rating: 7.1
