Tropical
Sunset
Hybrid Tea 4-6'
Louise Gardner' x ('Aukland Metro' x
'Stars 'n' Stripes' seedling)
MACtaurang:
McGredy, 1998
Also known as: Marvelle
Vivid streaks of orange, pink, and
yellow characterize this rose that is so
well-named. I cannot look at a blossom
without thinking of being on an island
somewhere in the South Seas. Colors are
brightest on new petals, then lighten with
sun exposure to more glowing shades of
pink with softly blended stripes. An
abundance of softly fragrant flowers have
a sweet citrus scent. The semi-glossy
foliage clothes a vigorous, healthy
bush.
Blooms are generally 4 inches or smaller with the
occasional super size bud forming. Height seems to
be on the shorter end of the range here in my
garden. This rose has won a place in my garden
solely for its visual impact. I just adore the
blazing colors on this bush and bouquets of this
rose never fail to impress me. It blends quite well
in my garden being flanked on one side by the
bright yellows of 'Radiant Perfume' and the other
by the coral tones of 'Tropicana'.
'Tropical Sunset' has shown surprising winter
hardiness and above average disease resistance.
Being unfussy about maintenance, it continually
blooms all summer long. Probably not the best rose
for exhibition as blooms are inconsistent in form
and size, but it is a great choice for a knockout
color splash in the garden.
