First Generation

Wilhelm ANTES was born about 1713 in Germany. He came on the ship "Friendship" and took the oath of allegiance to Pennsylvania on 12 Oct 1741. In 1766, he purchased land in Frederick Co., MD from Andrew FOGLE. This tract was known as William's Purchase and contained 247 acres. Wilhelm and his family were active in the Rocky Hill and St. Peters Church where Wilhelm was a member of the Board of Trustees. Wilhelm's wife was named Elizabeth. Her surname is unknown as is her date of death. It is known that Wilhelm married a second time by 1782 when he is named in a Guardian bond as having married Mary SHUTTER, the widow of Christian SHUTTER. Wilhelm made his will 15 Feb 1783 and is buried in the Cabbage Run Valley Cemetery once land owned by Phillip Schmitt.

Third Generation

John ANDERS was born about 1768. He moved to Washington Co., VA by 1797 when he was a witness to a sale. In 1800 he acquired a quarter acre lot in Abingdon. He married 12 Nov 1801 in Washington Co. to Eleanor "Nellie" LYNCH (1785-1853) the daughter of Edward LYNCH. John and Eleanor are both buried in the Old Shutters Cemetery in Washington Co., VA. Their children were:

Fourth Generation

William ANDIS was born 1802/3 in VA. He married 1 Sep 1825 Washington Co., VA to Sarah GRAY. In 1832 he purchased 50 acres in the Rich Valley, Washington Co., VA. His wife Sarah died in 1842 leaving him with six children to raise.

William ANDIS married next 27 Apr 1853 Wythe Co., VA to Mary "Polly" Porter Scott Gose (1815-1885), widow of George Gose Jr. They resided near Speedwell, VA. William died 26 Apr 1884 in Wythe Co. and is buried at St. Patrick's Church at Speedwell, VA. There were two children from this marriage:

(8) Virginia Alice ANDIS (1856-1946) m. 1884 James WILSON

Fifth Generation

Robert Preston Andis was born 25 Mar 1830 at Abingdon, Washington Co., VA. He is said to have moved to Indiana following his mother's death where he lived with his uncle Alexander. He married 12 Aug 1852 in Hancock Co., IN to Phebe LOW (1837-1911), the daughter of Willard LOW and Diantha DRAKE. He served during the Civil War in Co. B, 99th Reg., IN and rose to the rank of Captain on 13 Aug 1862. After the war he returned to Indiana. About 1879 he and his family moved to Bourbon Co., Kansas where he located on Pawnee Creek one mile from Hiattville. Capt. Andis died 9 May 1917 and is buried in the Hiattville Cemetery next to his wife. Robert and Phebe were the parents of:
