John GRAY made his will 23 Apr 1751 Augusta Co., VA. His wife was not named.

The children of John Gray were:

(1) Ann GRAY

(2) Benjamin GRAY made his will 12 Sep 1778, proved 18 Nov 1778 Washington Co., VA. His wife Margaret and Joseph Gray were named executors. His widow married next to ---- CAMPBELL.

(3) David GRAY

(4) Jacob GRAY

(5) John GRAY

(6) Samuel GRAY married to Nancy McCLUNG.

(7) William GRAY

The children of Benjamin and Margaret Gray were:

(1) Absolum GRAY

(2) John GRAY born about 1740-5 County Down, Ireland. Will made 8 Jan 1795, proved 7 Jun 1795 Washington Co., VA. Wit: John Campbell, John Davis, Joseph Gray, Mary Anderson. He is buried at Halls Bottom, Washington Co., VA. He married circa 1768 to Jean McCAIN born 1746/7 Scotland. She reportedly immigrated from County Down, Ireland. She died after 1799 at Halls Bottom, Washington Co., VA.

Fourth Generation

The children of John Gray and Jean McCain are believed to be:

(1) Capt. William McCain GRAY born 25 Apr 1771 at sea according to family tradition. His will was made 5 May 1846, proved 25 May 1846 Washington Co., VA. He married 9 Jan 1794 Washington Co., VA to Mary DAVIS (1773-1856), the daughter of Capt. John Davis and Mary Allison. Their daughter Sarah Gray was born 5 Apr 1807 Washington Co., VA, died 20 Feb. 1846. She married to Elisha James in 1829 and was unfortunately NOT my Sarah Gray.

(2) Rebecca GRAY married James Clairbourne ANDERSON.

(3) John GRAY married 23 Aug 1798 Washington Co., VA to Margaret LATHAM (1782-).

(4) Jean GRAY married 3 Mar 1797 Washington Co., VA to Joseph GRAY, Jr. Were they cousins?? (see second GRAY line below)

(5) Thomas GRAY died before Oct 1799.

(6) Mary GRAY married to Joel HALLIARD.

Joseph GRAY Sr. made his will 19 Aug 1818, recorded 17 Aug 1819 Washington Co., VA. Executors were sons Joseph and John Gray. He was married to a woman named Mary.

(1) Benjamin GRAY probably married 24 Aug 1814 Washington Co., VA to Susanna WICKHAM.

(2) Joseph GRAY Jr. born 1760-80. He was named in the will of John COPE of Montgomery Co., VA 14 Sep 1780. He married 3 Mar 1797 Washington Co., VA to Jean GRAY.

(3) John GRAY probably married 14 Oct 1819 to Miriam DAVIS.

(4) Catherine GRAY born 1 Nov 1767. Married before 1818 to John LEBOW.

(5) Jane GRAY married before 1818 to Jonathan MUMPOWER.

(6) Ann GRAY married before 1818 to --- BAXTER.

(7) Agnes GRAY unmarried in 1818.

(8) Mary GRAY unmarried in 1818.

(9) Sally GRAY unmarried in 1818. Did she marry 1825 to William ANDIS???

(10) Phebe GRAY unmarried in 1818.

(11) Susannah GRAY unmarried in 1818.
