ALLSUP FAMILY


First Generation

George ALSOP was probably born in Chesterfield Parish, Derbyshire, England. He was transported to Accomack Co., VA by William TAYLOR by 30 Oct 1699. His wife was named Ann and she moved to adjoining Northampton and later Richmond Cos. appearing in the 1705/6 records of Richmond as a debtor to Thomas BAGWELL. She died 1718.


Second Generation

The known children of George and Ann ALSOP were:

(1) William ALSOP is mentioned in the Court Order Book of King George Co. on 7 July 1721 as having his plantation appointed as a rolling house (tobacco warehouse). He lived at same place as his father but that portion of Richmond Co. became King George Co. in 1720. His plantation thought to be on the north bank of the Rappahannock River across the river from Port Royal in Essex Co. In 1727 this part of Essex Co. became Caroline Co. Many of the friends, relatives and neighbors of the William Alsop family gradually acquired land on the other side of the Rappahannock River in Caroline Co. The sons of William Alsop began moving out of King George Co. and into Caroline Co. as they gained possessions and business interests there. William died in Caroline Co. in 1761 and his executors were John Rowe, Peyton Smith and Thomas Samuel. The name of his wife is unknown at this time.

Fourth Generation

Benjamin ALSOP moved from King George Co., VA to Caroline Co., VA by 1750. He died in 1777. His wife was named Nellie. In 1778 she was convicted in court for concealing a tithe (not listing the correct number of males over age sixteen.) and was fined five hundred pounds of tobacco. The children of Benjamin and Nellie Alsop are believed to have been:

Fifth Generation

John ALSOP was born 1776 in Caroline Co., VA. He appears on the 1800 tax list and 1810 census of Montgomery Co., KY. In 1816 he purchased land from the U.S. Land Office at Vincennes, IN which he later sold in 1827 to Thomas LITRELL. He resided in Monroe Co., IN by 1820 and later removed to Dewitt Co., IL to that portion which later became Macon Co. in 1839. He purchased land in Macon Co. during the early 1830s which was later inherited by his sons Thomas and Westly. John died 1830-35. In 1840, his widow Ellener (Wren) Alsop was listed as head of household in Dewitt Co., IL. She died before 1850. Their children probably included:

Sixth Generation

Thomas ALLSUP was born circa 1801/2 in KY. He came to Monroe Co., IN by 1822 when he married Susannah NEWCOMB on March 7th. The family moved to Edgar Co., IL by 1830 and to Dewitt Co., IL by 1850. Thomas died intestate in 1862. His estate was administered 4 Aug 1862 in Dewitt Co., IL by James H. Kirbey. His widow resided in 1870 with their widowed daughter Mary Alsop CARR. Susannah is reported to have lived with her daughter Judy Allsup Trowbridge in Kansas in 1880. The children of Thomas and Susannah (Newcomb) ALLSUP were:

Seventh Generation

William T. ALLSUP was born 10 Jan 1824 in Indiana. He married 30 Sep 1847 Dewitt Co., IL to Love RANDOLPH, the daughter of William RANDOLPH and Matilda KEARNS. Love was born 4 Oct 1816 in VA and died Oct 1880. William and Love RANDOLPH removed to Bourbon Co., KS from IL and both are buried near Mapleton in Bourbon County. Their children included:
