Books Kids Will Sit Still For 3: A Read-Aloud Guide
"Judy has selected 1,991 titles that will keep children in grades K through 6 enthralled. All published within the
last 10 years, these range from picture books, fiction, folklore and poetry to biography and nonfiction. Each annotated
entry provides a brief plot summary, related titles and subject designations. In addition, there are curriculum tie-ins
and suggested activities including drama, crafts, research and problem-solving." -- from Teaching
PreK-8, April 2006.
Cool Story Programs for the School-Age Crowd
Rob Reid has written several books on storytelling and children's programming and this appears to be his most recent
work, published in 2004. What appealed to me about this title was the non-traditional subject matter. "
What kid wouldnt love literary explorations of the stinky, creepy, and dirty? Throw in rats, witches, aliens,
and underwear, and its irresistible." -- [from the
ALA Online Store description.]
Three-Minute Tales: Stories From Around the World to Tell When Time is Short
Margaret Read MacDonald has authored over 30 books on storytelling. All the reviews I read for this book were positive. These
brief stories could be a good way for new library staff to ease in to storytelling. The book includes tips for beginners
and is organized by type of tale (scary, humorous, participatory, etc.)
