E-Quake Alarm

     If
you only had a warning of a couple of seconds before an earthquake
strikes... In just seconds you could wake up your children and find a safe
location, away from sharp and heavy objects that could injure you and your
beloved ones!

E Quake Alarm continuously monitors your surrounding for harmless
P-waves, which precede earthquakes. When it detects a P-wave, expected
to be followed up by a major earthquake, the unit will alarm acoustically and
optically. Although the exact warning time cannot be given as this is
depending on several variables (so as the distance from the epicenter, soil
conditions, depth of the earthquake etc.), warning time can reach up to 60
seconds!

Earthquakes radiate destruction much like a bomb blasts: Seismic waves
burst from the underground epicenter. P waves, which compress and
stretch rock, deliver the earthquake's initial punch. Slower and more
destructive S waves follow, slithering side to side. S waves tear buildings
off foundations and can churn wet soils into a mixture that acts like
quicksand, causing buildings to tilt.

P Wave -Fastest wave generated by fault rupture. Compresses and
stretches rock. This is the first to hit the detection point which triggers the
alarm.
S Wave - Slower but often more destructive wave. Shakes rock side to side.

R Wave - Third to hit

The E-Quake Alarm monitors the environment, in search of an
earthquake's initial P waves. When the microprocessor electronics detect a
P wave, the visual and acoustic quake alarm will start. The P-wave is
harmless for the environment and people will usually not percept it. E Quake
Alarm has been designed to sound the alarm on the P-wave; just before a
life threatening earthquake strikes (A). This allows occupants to reach a
safe location (B) before the destructive waves reach the dwelling (C):
E Quake Alarm is build for personal use (inside a single family home,
condominium or apartment). It must be mounted with screws to a wall
preferably near or in the bedroom, close to a location that can provide
safety against falling objects (near a door post, a solid inside wall, a desk
or a sturdy table). An included AC wall wart adapter provides the power
supply. In case of a power breakdown, E Quake Alarm will continue working
on the integrated rechargeable battery pack. The alarm warns visually (red
LED's) and acoustically (85 dB).
Through regular practice, people will have to train themselves, and their
family, to move instantly after the alarm sounds. In this way, they will always
move towards a safe location just before a dangerous earthquake strikes.
Depending on their location and housing conditions, people can decide to
stay inside or move to a safer location outside.
After the earthquake, E Quake Alarm will automatically switch into
emergency signal mode. With an integrated beeper, the user can draw the
attention of the rescue workers.

E Quake Alarm can be compared with a smoke detector: The unit senses
danger which already occurred, but the warning time might still be enough
to reach a safe location.

Did you know that some animals behave exceptionally just before an
earthquake occurs? In fact, some animals (such as dogs) can sense the
harmless P-waves and express the upcoming danger with unusual
behaviour.

We used the latest digital technology to make this reliable earthquake
warning system now available to everyone. The E Quake Alarm, P-wave
recognition software is based on real earthquake data from various
earthquakes around the world.
