This is my version of a telephone lineman from the later half of 1944 in the western European theater. As you can see, he carries no weapon or helmet so its safe to assume that hes a good distance from the front lines. In this diorama he is installing new lines to an existing local phone system. The EE-8 field phone could be used by itself in a closed system or connected to the local phone line.
Heres a lay down of whats included: Clothing/Figure: 1. Dragon Christian (dirtied up) 2. 21st one-piece HBT overalls (weathered) 3. 21st russet service shoe 4. Hasbro gray tank top (from Han Solo!) 5. Hasbro cap (the color/style doesnt match the Army issue perfectly, so call it civilian. It just looks too cool not to use, he he!) Equipment: 1. Scratch built climbing spurs (made from brass/leather, really hold figures weight) 2. Homemade climbing belt (made from some kind of leathery stuff) 3. Dragon web belt (weathered) 4. 21st linemans tool pouch (with custom roll of electrical tape) 5. 21st ammo pouch (to hold nuts/bolts, spare parts) 6. Cotswold canteen pouch (modified with working snaps) 7. Dragon canteen (modified with chain and opening top) 8. Some random small tools stuck in pockets 9. A map with locations of telephone lines 10. And a pack of smokes of course
Large Equipment: 1. EE-8-A Field Telephone (vintage Hasbro totally reworked with new crank/housing, new leather strap with correct attachments, added working closure on cover, and full weathering.) 2. Wire Reel (Totally scratch built from styrene, metal, etc. The 2 discs are actually cut from the tops to a couple of juice bottles. And the crank handle is one of those miniature toy bike cranks. I took off the pedal and made a handle that would fit in its place. It all fully works, and the wire handles even fold.) More about the equipment can be found in the U.S. Gear section.
