| Kim returned to the full life of a teenager, getting a drivers license and a job at Jamba Juice. She gave Smokey a new buddy named Penny, so she now had two horses to love and look after. But by the end of the school year, as summer approached, Kim became more and more tired. She had something scary inside her chest that she didnt want to talk about. Her parents knew that it was a fifty-fifty chance that the cancer would return. They knew that if it did come back and she hadnt had a lot of time to recover, there was not much they could do for Kim. This thought of this was unbearable to face. Suspecting the cancer had returned, Kim and her family began more aggressively pursuing a holistic approach to her disease. She modified her diet wiping out all sugars and tried many different therapies at home. Suddenly, Kim began experiencing shortness of breath. Her breathing became very shallow. As the Thorne family drove down the highway towards L.A. once again, they discussed their choices. Would it be UCLA or should they go to Childrens Hospital? Childrens felt more like home. So there they went. Kim was admitted immediately to I.C.U. By that evening they had drained over three liters of fluid out of her lungs and about a half a liter of water from around her heart. Further tests showed Kim did indeed have Hodgkins again, for the third time. She was put on the highest level of oxygen that could be administered. The doctors did not have a positive outlook on her condition. They took her parents aside and offered them very little hope for Kim. You know, she told her parents, Im not going anywhere. Kim continues to live. She continues to fight. She gets a little bit better every day. Her struggle with fevers is ongoing at this time but even they are subsiding. The doctors have been able to give her a few small shots of morphine to ease her pain. Her faith in God grows deeper and her love of life grows stronger as time passes. Prayers have circled the earth on behalf of this amazing young woman. She is surrounded by an amazing family. Her life overflows with people who love and support her. Kims family is pursuing very good options for her recovery in the field of alternative medicine. |
