Pssst.... I do some of my best thinking in the tub. Try it!
Feminism, women and theology, history, reading lists for girls, social
movements...
it's all here, and someday there might even be an index.
I'm certainly not old enough to be an old woman or even a middle aged one, but this whole Croning thingy has me upset. Why would any reasonable woman want to be a Crone? I think I will grow up to be a hussy and not a crone. The preference seems clear to me. Hussies win out every time. I was first called a hussy in sophomore literature class in high school by my teacher! Just for arriving late with cigarettes on our breaths our beloved english teacher "affectionately" known as "Birdman" called my friend Sue and I, and I quote, "You shameless hussies." It was one of those pivotal defining moments in life. I've considered myself a hussy ever since. A couple of years ago I found a site called Brazen Hussies that has brought me endless enjoyment. Check it out.
The whole feminism and theology "thing" is of great interest to me.
Recording the history of women, starting with my own matriline, through genealogy also drives me. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone interested in genealogy to document all the details of your own women's ancestors lives so they don't fade away... diminished and then forgotten in favor of the males with surnames which get preserved to the exclusion of the wonderfully rich and textured stories of women and families.
So is what we tell our women children about being and becoming women through what we give them to read.
Women's words too often tend to slip away through time without formal preservation... to put an end to such unfortunate loss of women's knowledge and perspective... check out some of these seminal works and ask your libraries to purchase copies if they do not already own them.
And of course there is the recognition of women writers through various honors such as Pulitzer Awards.
And let's not forget about how women who came of age in the 70s are like no other group evah! Women of punk, women of color, women of conscience, women of... well you get the idea.
