John Gann and Hannah Smith

John Gann  the son of Adam Carter Gann SR. and Jane ____ . He was born  in 1749  VA. and died about 1840-50  in Marion Co, AL.

John married Hanah Smith

Hanah Smith who was born in 1750, VA.

Dick Fox who was the editor of  "THE GANN GAZETTE" from 1988 to 1991 suggests that John was a restless frontiersman who migrated south westward as the young nation developed rapidly in that direction in the late 1700's and 1800's. John Gann and his wife apparently relocated from Halifax County Va. to Washington Co, TN. in 1783 with their son Nathan who was born in VA. Four sons were probably born in Washington Co, Tenn .  Then the family moved to South Carolina after 1799 where two sons were born.  In 1803 Johand 1830. n and family moved to Buncombe Co, North Carolina where their last son was born.

By 1812 John and his sons were starting to appear on White-Warren, Tn. tax lists and land records. John and six of his sons apparently moved to Marion Co, Ala. between 1824

Their children were:

1. Nathan Gann  B: 1773 in Halifax, Va.
