Richard Grantham Son of John Grantham and Ann Brown was born March 16, 1754 in Dobbs Co., N.C. He died June 27, 1846 in Granger Ac. TN.

 

Richard Grantham and Frances Amis were married April14, 1784 in Hawkins Co. TN. They were married by  Thomas Murrell  in Hawkins Co. 

 

Frances Amis Daughter of  Thomas Amis  and Alice Gale  was born April 15, 1765 in Northhampton Co., N.C.  She died April 27, 1857 in Grainger Co., TN. 

 

 Richard and Frances had the following children:

1.    Penelope Grantham  B: June 10, 1786 

2.   Mary Grantham   Was born  February 08, 1788 in Hawkins Co, TN.  She  died on October 17, 1826 in  Hawkins Co, TN and married  George Nathan  Saunders.

 3.   Ann Grantham October 12, 1814 in TN. Ann  married  Hezekiah Robertson.

 4.   Amis Grantham   Was born September 01, 1791 in TN.   He died April 24, 1873 in San Gabriel, Tx.  He  married Margaret Williams.

5.   Tabitha Grantham     B:   May 27, 1793                                                  

6.   Rachel Grantham Was born  March 05, 1795  and married James Dodson.

 7.  Rhoda Grantham  Was born November 09, 1796 in Grainger Co, TN. and died  December 13, 1817.  She married James M. Moore  

8.    Lincoln Grantham    B: August 13, 1798

9.    John Thomas Grantham   Was born  January 09, 1800 in TN. He married Margaret Littleton.

10.  James H. Grantham    Was born  October 08, 1801 in TN and died December 11, 1875.

11.  Alice Gale Grantham   Was Born on  May 07, 1803 in TN. She married Hugh W. Taylor.

12.  Richard Grantham Jr.  Was born January 23, 1805 Hawkins Co, TN and died June 26, 1882  in  Indianola, Iowa    Warren Co.

13.  Willis Grantham    B: abt 1809

 

 

Revolutionary War

Richard Grantham served in the Revolutionary War for six months as a private and 18 months as a corporal, during which time he took part in the Battle of Brier Creek.

According to "The Heritage of Wayne County" Richard served in the place of his cousin Joshua because Joshua was married with small children and Richard was unmarried at the time.

Richard Grantham applied for revolutionary pension while living in Grainger County, August 21, 1832. He enlisted while living in Dobbs Co. N.C. in Col Charles Coatsworthy Pinckney's 1st South Carolina Regiment. After the Revolution he moved to Hawkins County, N.C, now Tennessee and subsequently lived in Grainger Co. 

His widow, Frances Amis Grantham, applied for pension October 14, 1846. Her brother was Lincoln Amis. Enclosed in the National Archives are the originial  pages from the family bible.

GRANTHAM, Richard, deceased. My beloved wife Frances Grantham, My black boy SIMON; my 1st daughter Penelope advanced in age; my daughter Tabitha Robertson; the children of my daughter Mary deceased, intermarried with George SANDERS; the children of my daughter Anna deceased, who intermarried with Hezekial Robertson; my son Amos, my daughter Rachel; my daughter Rhoda; my son John Grantham; my son James Grantham; my daughter Alice; my son Richard Grantham; my son Willis Grantham; James Grantham & Hughs W. Taylor, Executors. Signed Richard Grantham  6 Dec 1845.

Witnessess: George G. Taylor, Jacob P. Kirkham, James H. Gray.
