Infinite Diversity - Part Three
I observe that Cullen can slay an errant underling without raising his voice. Pity he didn't send the undisciplined brat to sit in the corner for a while; she all but bullied that poor boy in the hospital. Ainsel
Cullen in sunglasses with the sun glinting on his red - oops - ruby hair and in that black top - first v neck I've ever seen I liked ... now there was a moment to treasure Avon
He looked stunning, even in those ugly sunglasses that were too small for his face. Gail
I liked Cullen in those sunnies! The really funny thing was that they were all wearing them - it was like something out of the Blues Brothers or the Men in Black! BH
You're right though, come to think of it he is WAY beyond being just an ordinary superhero. I have really come to like Cullen now, since they have finally fleshed his character out and made him more realistic as a superior officer. FB
....lucky for others (yes you, Avon) who could catch sight of the gorgeous Cullen! Flossy
I don't like his (Vik's) methods, and I think it's plain obvious that Cullen doesn't either. Lucy Yes, it is obvious to me too - but I don't think it has dawned on Vik yet. He still seems to think that Cullen will be impressed if he can combine every bit jargon going into one sentence when a cockroach with half a brain would have figured out by now that Cullen is down-to-earth and plain spoken. Avon
Didn't we get off to a flying start...cruising down the river with Chandler doing the big smarm act below decks and Cullen sitting in the sun, meditatively watching Reg falling over a fence... Ainsel
Oh yes! Loved the look on poor Alex's face as he had to listen to Chandler downstairs. I thought that retreating from the function - undoubtedly the sort of function a more politically minded man would have adored - to sit in the sun with what I hope was a very nice glass of wine was very Cullen. So too was the calm observation of a crime and the calling it in. Boulton would probably have leapt in the river and swam over so he could personally feel the slag's collar while Deakin would have been too busy working the room to notice.\ Avon
Have you noticed Cullen has more friends per square inch of London than the latest lottery winner? Avon
I am beginning to like Cullen even more. Oh don't get me wrong, I've always liked him, but tonight's performance was fantastic. Lucy
An intriguing character whose appeal lies in his ingenuousness which he attempts to hide behind a tantalisingly inscrutable expression. Watching Cullen (who is played so admirably by Ged Simmons) is a bit like observing a very active volcano. You can sense the overpowering passions inside but so rarely get a proper glimpse. (Sigh.) Mishka
He's a very unique individual! Dae
VERY, VERY- Sexy, Tall, Ginger, Mouth-watering, Mysterious, Intimating, Quiet, Fascinating, Irresistible... umm, need I go on?? ;) Wrinklepuppy
As for Cullen, his commitment and good looks make him worth watching. Chrissie j
...our very much loved ruby haired DI (Ged!!) Kit
"A glimpse of Cullen Would've been rather darling But Duncan is a con's best friend..." Jo_Macq
Bit of yawn really. I'm with you Jo - I would have loved a glimpse of Cullen!!! Maysie
Agree with Jo that it would've been better with a Cullen appearance. Wombat
As for Cullen, why was he yelling about what he was going to tell His Nibs? He'd warned Singh not to foul things up, and Vik did foul things up. Never mind telling His Nibs, he should've been dealing forcefully with Vik Singh, who really ought to know better and was just lucky that Duncan felt like sticking up for him. Worse still, Avon will have something to say about Alex wearing the green tie again. Jo_Macq
I'm not keen, I have to admit, on statements such as "Mr Chandler's going to crucify me" as a means of keeping your unit in line but it would be churlish to expect perfection in every single utterance. On the other hand I do, do, do like the way Cullen truly believes that life isn't a Uniform/CID competition and that Uniform are equal to CID. I loved the bad inspector/badder inspector tag-team More of that please! It reminded me of one of my favourite TB scenes when Deakin takes Boulton into Monroe so Monroe can kick him too in On the Block. Avon
Yich, yes! It's not that I have any problem with green as such - Irish background and all of that - but that limey-yellow green doesn't do it for me, that's for sure! (On the other hand the deep green tie with the blue shirt, the maroon tie with the pinkish shirt and the blue tie that clashes with the blue shirt are all worse, I think). Avon
Whoever commented on Cullens shirt/tie, agree too - yukky green on green is ghastly, it seems to be an urban myth amongst redheads that green is the way to go for them. Jane
Depends on the green. That tie was practically fluoro -- bad look, very bad, on the general run of human beings, let alone the ruby-haired... Jo (who suggests ceremonial burning of that tie...)
Sounds like an appropriately Cultish thing to do... now we just need a full moon Avon
Green is most definitely a redhead's colour, even more than blue. But not that horrid puke green of Cullen's tie. But look on the bright side, at least he doesn't persist in wearing pink all the time like most redheads. Gail
I'm sure he'd love too - it's just that Chandler won't let him. Avon
WOW! Cullen on that megaphone seemed strangely satisfying. Flossy
Does it well, doesn't he? I also liked the way he kicked in the door of the fight venue. He's perfectly gorgeous tucked up in the office in a nice suit but I would like to see him outdoors a bit more often. Avon
Loved the smile on Alex's face as he passed through the crowd in Custody...we don't see a happy Cullen every day, do we? Ainsel
Nothing like satisfaction for a job well-done. Wields a mean megaphone, doesn't he? Both make a nice contrast to the man who reminded Boyden about his attitude to CID. This could be viewed as petty, or (as I'm preferring) as Cullen being aware that Boyden wants something very badly if he's prepared to eat the humble pie being offered to him. Jo_Macq
RIDET! RIDET!!! Avon
The others in the team are... and our very much loved ruby haired DI (Ged!!) I almost tempted to pay for a flight ticket to the UK just to watch the game to see 'Cullen, Chandler, Smiffy,, Mickey & the rest' take on this Emmerdale lot. Kit
As for Cullen, his commitment and good looks make him worth watching. Chrissie (j)
Yeah, that's an interesting interpretation. I guess I just figured that he was human, and maybe sergeants years older than you being insolent get up your nose - particularly when you've made a big effort to abandon the traditional CID superiority complex. Avon
Well, in the beginning of the ep I thought that the return of Cullen's Drinking Bird was to be the only good installment of the whole series... Flossie
Admittedly I've been enjoying most of the episodes lately (Cullen, Cullen and more Cullen - what's there not to enjoy?) Avon
Cullen and Monroe did a good version of the bouncing ferret trick with Vik. Avon
Any glimpse of Cullen is better than none at all! Maysie
Indeed it is - I'd prefer more than a glimpse but these weren't bad glimpses. It was very much calm, cool Cullen doing his job intelligently and matter-of-factly. Avon
To start off with, a little sartorial note: when us Cultists ritually burn that green tie of Cullen's, can we use that yellow shirt of Duncan's as kindling for the ceremonial pyre? I don't think it suits his colouring. Jo_Macq
I loved Cullen's roasting scenes. You had to laugh at them. Lucy
Poor, poor Cullen though - the shower he has to work with! I wish he'd keep a tighter rein on Debbie though - a choke chain might be good. I suppose to an extent you have to trust your sergeants though or the unit simply can't function. Avon
Another thing too, even though I like him, I feel that Cullen came over a bit OTT with his ranting session. I really do feel that he paid Kate out just a little too much, and that he should have asked for her side of the story before he jumped off the deep end about what she allegedly did, especially when it was based purely on rumours. I mean, she should know more about what did or did not happen than anyone, after all, she was there. FB
Er, maybe he doesn't think Kate's entirely beyond redemption just yet?* Too much time in the aura of McAllister's unsubtle influence, and she might end up just as irretrievably awful. One does wonder who McAllister had some influence on, so as to be promoted to DS in the first place. Jo_Macq
I think that is a pretty reasonable interpretation. Also you could say that Kate is reaping what she has sowed - does he have much reason to trust her? My personal view was that she was copping the backlash from the earlier problem with her and Chandler. She was very quick then to try and lord it over him so it would be pretty human to be angry with her. My even more personal view (possible only seen from my ruby-coloured universe) is that the Chandler- Kate thing hurt Alex in the way betrayal does - I think he not only is mates with Chandler but also looks up to him a little. Bad enough to find your hero has feet of clay - again! (impression I've got from the start is that Cullen is aware of Chandler's weakness with women, regrets it but doesn't really understand it) - but when it hits directly at you and what (your unit) is important to you then it's even worse. I can see how you could know it was more Chandler's fault but still blame Kate more. Avon
I also thought that although Cullen didn't feature prominently, he managed to prove, once again, that although his style is very different to that of Galloway, Burnside and Deakin, he is nevertheless a worthy successor to his predecessors. He is self-possessed and enigmatic but capable of being supportive or tough when the occasion calls for it. I like the fact that we know so little about him. \ Richie
Lots of characters was a plus - especially when one of them, however briefly, was Cullen. Avon
Nice to see Cullen but he doesn't seem to be getting much to do at the moment. This is not a good thing in my book. I want more Cullen and I want it now. Ainsel
I feel a chant coming on: What do we want? More Alex Cullen! When do we want it? Now! Hmm, could do with some work... Jo_Macq
Definitely! I wasn't expecting Cullen - thought he'd be in court still - so it was nice and I do love it when they actually let him out of doors! Avon Sunlight brings out the best in him. ainsel
I think he works well in some respects because he is a no-complications character, just dependable, reliable, cool and in control with his hidden agendas. Guv
Has anyone noticed that in pretty much every episode Cullen is always walking around with a mug in his hand (you watch next time. Bob229
I just think it's a shame that they've made no effort to develop such a well-acted, realistic and potentially strong character. Clarkey
I wonder if a DI gets a mug supplied or if the force gives them a grant for it. Aelfred2

Some forummers will know that in recent weeks I have been championing our current DI and lamenting the travesty that after two years he is becoming a decent character, rather than a complete plank of wood. This is no comment on the work of Ged Simmons but rather that the poor man has been given very little to do over his time as DI. DS Thompson
Cullen is an old style Bill character. I like him a lot.. Clearout
Actually I don't mind Cullen, the only new CID officer who wouldn't easily secure a slot on The Jerry Springer Show. I wish he'd learn to dunk his biscuits though. Roxy
...and I would still trade the lot of 'em (except Cullen) for just that scene with Deakin in the car wash in "Lullaby"... Ainsel
...there was a scene where Boulton and Tosh were following a suspect and the camera focused on the car mirror, and you could only see the top of LGHSA's head with his hair and eyes. He didn't half look like Cullen!! Perhaps they were seperated at birth!!! Guv
i fell in love with Ged 2 weeks ago! Nicksgurl
I think Alex is very interesting I like him even though I barely know him. Kate
I think he's an excellent DI. Steve
Er, rather boring. Makes me laugh. Mags
Lack of Cullen is a minus in a CID-based story, but you can't have everything... Jo_Macq
He has got such a mysteriously innocent charm about him Shona
His face is so expressive in small ways - and as for his voice... I could quite happily listen to audio tapes of eps. I don't quite know why I find it so gorgeous - the hint of an accent, the softness and theway he can signal emotions with very little changes...... Avon
I think Pennington made him look at his position at SH - sandwiched between Tom and Jack and generally pretty much treated as a useful possession by Chandler. Of course, the problem is that he then tried to play political games - and that just isn't him. Avon
He's not a ladies man like Tom - he seems almost regretful and not really understanding about how Tom (or Sam) can be so affected by women . Avon
