Cullen, I think you've all said it really. It was a plus to see another side of him. He has amazing fingersnapping skill, reminded me of barber song quartets

Wombat
It was great to see Alex feature in an episode for a change *sigh* Loved the mauve shirt - nice to see a man who isn't out to make a fashion statement, but still manages to look fanastic.

Aussiebillfan
He does have beautiful hands.

Gail
I just wish they got a new wardrobe person for The Bill, DI Cullen should wear dark suits, ie navy or black to make him look even more gorgeous, not awful (grandpa) grey suits, which no one wears, or those slightly better blue suits!

MaryC
Infinite Diversity - Part Two
Lovely, mysterious - and he can visit me any time he likes.

Jenny
I'm not that keen but it is growing on me. Have you noticed that he almost always seems to wear it hanging open ("American-style' I've seen this called in old British books!) He may not be very sensible but it does look cool - tall men look good in coats.

Avon
I really liked the two scenes in which Cullen had a little smirk at someone's expense, and most of all I liked the scene at the end where he hovered near Danny, smiling until Danny noticed him, then nodded and walked away. Probably the closest he was going to come to an apology.  He has a delightful smile, it's a pity we don't get to see it very often.

Gail
I don't mind the coat with the green collar, it suits him. I probably wouldn't like it on anyone else, though. I love his blue suit and the light blue shirt he wears with it. That's the shirt that Avon thinks Chandler gave him. She's probably right, too.

Gail
Is Cullen colour-blind? That's the only explanation I can find for his taste in clothing.....

Shadow
And of course there was Cullen. (I distinctly heard a WHOOOOOOSH! in the distance as he appeared on screen - my hubby wondered what was so funny....)

Annie
He yells. He pulls rank. But, also, he smiles. Charmingly. Admittedly it's because he got his own way in the end, but the pressure level has to be allowed to drop. Can't have steam coming out of his ears...

Jo_Macq
I thought Cullen was fantastic in this ep. It shows that Cullen is not some sort of alien from space.

Lucy
When Cullen strolled away at the end, very happy (snapping his fingers, I thought) I sort of expected him to break into song as he left the building. ("What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again.")

Over the course of several wakeful hours this mental picture evolved into a top hat, white tie affair. He looked quite gorgeous. It's very vivid and clear; I can close my eyes and see it right now. This gradually expanded to include virtually all of CID, including Trev who looked absolutely splendid. Jack, I'm afraid, did not.

Ainsel

I think he has gradually provided the lift TB needed after the large turnover in popular cast members. My eldest son asked me what was it about women and red heads (men), I don't know what he means!! The way his character started off slowly but has gradually developed adds to the air of mystery that surrounds the man. Whilst having no exceptional physical features, he does have a certain something, (actually I think more than something). Also he has a brain and uses it, a quality that is often overlooked in his profession. I think he has the ability to think outside the square.

Wombat
With a hint of sarcasm that his predessor Chris Deakin had, he's one  of the newish characters that has potential.

I have a question, O High Priestess of the Cult.

I haven't seen *that* many eps, but is it true that
the man of mystery is usually filmed in half-light or
by lamplight?  Every time I've seen him, I notice
this.  Is it designed to add to his mystique, or am I
merely imaging things?

I remain unenlightened.

Anneke.
But it is so wonderful how Alex *doesn't* give in to any female charm, ie
with Debbie, Kate, Roz etc, if anyone tries to pull a fast one on our Alex,
he'll give them the verbal equivalent of a kick up the b**

Shona
Alex reminds me of Garfield the cat (minus the extreme appetite for lasagna... hmm ...hang on 'that we know of' ;)...
It must be the red coat, the cool calm 'tude', and those big soulful eyes.

Shona
If you think Cullen is boring then you're not looking closely enough - that's the mystery.

Avon
DI Cullen - May not smile often, but I think he's a good cop.

Danxxx
It's always nice to see Cullen.

Melli
The way Cullen said "Danny! In my office now" was brilliant.

Melli
Three points of great acting.... Cullen being stern with Danny...

Viva Old Bill
I thought of a very happy Avon when I glanced up once or twice and saw Cullen - so I tried to imagine what was so special about him, but failed! All I could come up with was that on my (perfectly adjusted) TV, his hair is more russet-coloured than red - actually, as with Boulton, I never considered it red at all until people started raving about it! Anyway, each to his/her own tastes!
Jan
I rather liked the soft, low and deadly "Is this true?" just before it, where Danny had difficulty meeting his eyes. The man is as dangerous as Deakin, in his own way...

Jo Macq
Why, WHY did we not get to watch whilst Cullen took young Danny apart? I would have PAID to see that.)

Ainsel
Mind you, I would probably commit every sin if Cullen was around

Maysie
Ruby-coloured, Jan: ruby-coloured. That's my line and I'm sticking to it.  Mind you, in some lights it looks more brown than red, but in other lights it isn't common ginger. All right, having settled that important (!) point...

Gail
Ben reminds me of a young Cullen. Bland, mostly good-natured and eminently forgettable until he opens his yap.

Tiptruck
I have to restrain my enthusiam for Cullen cos my expressions of admiration could see me thrown out of the forum!!!!

Maysie
There can never be too much Cullen enthusiasm around here. It's fun.

Gail
Can't fault that sentiment...

Jo
I can never get enough Cullen for my liking, I always want more.  He is the best character to appear in this show since the much-missed Bob Cryer - and not only because he is attractive, either.  I like the character.

Gail
I'd rather the dry wit of Cullen, Greig or Burnside than unkind practical jokes.

Avon
Cullen had some great lines.

Melli
Man could say pass the salt and it would be a great line.

Avon
Cullen showed once again his biscuit nibbling - "care for a biscuit?"

Mim
Yes, Cullen and biscuits, what a combination ;o) Not even Lawrence Olivier could eat a biscuit with such style and minimalism.  He stole the moment with elan and pizazz too! It's those cat feet again.

Avon
Okay, now I not only have DI Alex Cullen's phone number - I also have his address! 16 Peabody Street!

Avon
I'm afraid I did think that our Alex wasn't showing quite the perception I would have expected of him if he really thought that Vik had the guts to stand up to anyone, though. Never mind - perhaps he was solving the unsolvable crime or proving the unprovable - or prehaps he just believes in positive thought. At least he was cluey enough to realise that the berk from drug squad smelt worse than the bottom of Reg's locker . Cullen has an entirely admirable set of contacts across the Met - I think only Bob could have bettered him.

Avon
Except for the chance to see Cullen, I thought this episode was rubbish!

Maysie
Seeing Cullen (however briefly) was also a highlight.

Melli
Though my attention was caught
and held when I looked up during a scene in the CID office, and thought I saw someone leaning against the watercooler in his seemingly nonchalant fashion.

Jo

*Sigh*... man could get a degree in watercooler leaning...

Avon
Another epithet for the ruby-haired one: He Who Charges Upstairs Mightily (and he does...)

Jo_Macq
The distinctly Avonic (as in the Blake's 7 character, for anyone who might be confused) tendency to be unnoticed when CID might otherwise not want him around to notice anything -- all he needed was a black leather suit, and to be leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed...

Jo_Macq
Something like this, Jo?
I've just realised what the words "black leather suit" and "Cullen", when put together, might do to the impressionable, and that includes myself as well as our Avon. Dear oh dearie me...

Jo_Macq
...No, it's not happening for me...but I can manage a nice Phillip Marlowe trenchcoat style mental image...mmmmmmmm nice....

Ainsel
Nice to see Cullen; pity sightings were so scarce and so much in darkness (which at least allows you to concentrate on the voice.)

Ainsel
Okay, if I needed proof that I spend *way* too much time here, last night I got it. When Cullen appeared I actually said "Whooosh"

Fairy Princess Gwen
I have to say that even I start to worry about myself when I can recognise Cullen when all we are seeing are his fingers ;o) They are sooooooooooooo long though! I love watching them wrap three times around a phone. I *know* I have exceptionally short midgy fingers but I'm sure each of his fingers is twice as long as mine.

Avon
...glimpses of bad ties, looooooooooong fingers, dark jumpers, ginger sideburns and *that* voice are still very worthwhile.

Avon
Don't forget the height. Very notable, particularly in the raid scene, even when there wasn't any light to shine on the hair. (And if Ged's about 6 ft 1, then there must be some midgets in CID...)

Jo_Macq
Okay, now I not only have DI Alex Cullen's phone number - I also have his address! 16 Peabody Street!

Avon
Cullen has an entirely admirable set of contacts across the Met - I think only Bob could have bettered him.

Avon
The person in another suit who turned out to be Cullen started as formless and vague to me, and has since grown in my estimation. He joins the list of characters that, if they were real, would have my respect because, to a greater or lesser degree, they have some grace where it counts. Not of the body, but of the mind.

Jo_Macq
When all we had was the original cast pic of the newbies I thought Vik looked the most interesting and the people who told me Cullen was the new Boulton were nuts. I was wrong - Vik is a two-faced slithery wuss who wears a tie pin and they were only slightly nuts. Cullen isn't the new anybody - he is his own man - but he is a fascinating a character.

Avon
I've just got to share this image which is haunting me - discussing the episode afterwards a friend and I were speculating on where Cullen was. Her suggestion? Still on the ceiling! (See Chandler's earlier remarks about having to get back to scrape someone off the ceiling in CID). All I can picture is this Spiderman/Cullen/Daddy-long-legs cross clinging to the ceiling and refusing to come down

Avon
Or lying in wait, ready to pounce on something or someone. (visualise Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula stealthily moving across the ceiling). Creepy!

Mim
That, of course, is what makes Cullen great - TPTB never bothered to figure out exactly *what* three inch high letters should be stuck to his head so he doesn't have a 'role' - and thank the appropriate deities for that!

Avon
Given that we've left a certain person hanging around on the ceiling and that he has to make an appearance at ground level for the next set of episodes, maybe that scraping His Nibs reckoned he had to do could've been done badly...

Jo_Macq
I'm sure Cullen would fall from ceilings with the delicacy and grace that he does everything else - but otherwise a very good theory.

Avon
He might fall from ceilings in graceful swan dives when left to himself (and I'm not pursuing that train of thought any further, on the grounds that it may lead from leather suits to swimming costumes -- and the latter I don't care to think about in this weather  ). His Nibs attempting to lend a helping hand might put his balance out.

Jo_Macq
I think Alex might have the requisite qualities.... An analytical mind, discretion, a certain. inscrutability.

DCI Pennington
Come Live with Me
...while DI Alex Cullen (Ged Simmons) once again proves himself in the field. But the popular Sun Hill detective is unwittingly setting himself up for a fall.

Alison Rehn.
Telegraph
Hmmm, but apart from that, my respect for Cullen is climbing higher and higher, for the simple fact that he had Pennington sussed towards the end of the ep.

Lucy
Cullen was back on form. Who else do you know who can say the one word, "...sir," and make it so clearly a deep insult?

Ainsel
While that was disappointing, it was good to see Cullen use that knowledge to influence Hanbury - not for his own personal gain, mind, but to solve the crime and to see justice done. Still waters, indeed.

Thrang
Bad influence time: when Cullen met Pennington at a cafe near the beginning, my first thought was "No biscuits?" No biscuits in his office, either, but no opportunity to see how he eats sandwiches, for that matter...

Jo
In reference to eating truffles reminding someone of Cullen -
Truffles? Mmm, that works for me - sweet, creamy smooth, often quite an ordinary appearance, not your boring average 600g block of Cadbury....
