Kacey's theories on Cullen 1. A Highlander crossover - he's really an immortal. 2. X-Files crossover - He's one of CSM's alien/human hybrid clones and Alex Krycek rescued him from a research facility as a child? 3. My real favourite - he's a nice guy trying to do a good job :o)
Gem's theory on Cullen He has a heart of gold.
Mim's theory on Cullen He reminds me a bit of Rimmer from Red Dwarf. Do you think Cullen could be a hologram?
BH's theories on Cullen I reckon he rides horses in his spare time. Don't ask me where that theory came from, it's just the walk. Or he breeds pedigree cats!
That Dalek exterior might hide somebody who's lost a wife, breeds pedigree cats, anything the writers want, they can fit him to. BH
He probably secretly prances around in women's underwear for all we know. Either that or Dalek suits *grin* Trys
Frankencullen? jo_macq
Blander than cheese on toast. Sal
Cheese on toast can be very nice - especially when it has a sort of hidden bite. Avon
The one amazing thing about Cullen being... that he not only *seems* ordinary, he manages to portray ordinary to unfathomable depths of ordinariness. Sal
When I say "blander than cheese on toast"...I'm comparing say Deakin (your crumbled feta upon a crisp bruscetta, sealed with a nice virgin olive oil and a rub of garlic), to Cullen (the last slice of stale Tip Top in the bag, topped with a layer of square yellow plastic masquerading as a cheese slice and toasted to utter blandness in the griller). Sal
Like Deakin Cullen can slice you to pieces without raising his voice and remain calmer than custard in all sorts of situations. Like Burnside he does dark sarcasm like a master and knows how to speak volumes with his eyes. Like Galloway he has pale skin and red hair. ;o) Avon
Cheese and vegemite on Cullen doesn't sound very appetising. BH
"Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, women have named you..." jo_macq
Emony's theory on Cullen Something obviously will happen if we wait with baited breath.
HE IS AS COOL AS A CUCUMBER. Anonimous (sic)
Avon's Theory for today Cullen has a drop or two of Vulcan blood.
He is a wonderful bloke. Gem
I'm intrigued :o) I look forward to catching up on Cullen eps and seeing more in future :o) He's refreshingly "ordinary" and therein lies the mystery :o) Kacey
I admire his coolness. I am intrigued by his relationship with Superintendent Chandler. I am fascinated by his background or lack of it. Avon
Thick as a plank but he knows how to eat a biscuit with dropping too many crumbs. Emony

Cullen - I'm still very happy with the development of His management style is great and his hypercoolness is great contrast and partnership to Chandler oozying "charm" Kacey
Cullen - loved the scene with Meadows after the explosion, anyone who can admit their own mistake like he did deserves a Smartie. Sunny
I'm becoming a Cullen fan, I think he is very honest & well meaning. It was intriguing that despite being stuck in a traffic jam he beat the trained driver there. You're right, he must have magic powers to clear the traffic. Wombat
Actually, I did not mind Cullen from the start...he's like a small island of peace and tranquillity in a raging sea of hyperactive emoting... Ainsel
Intriguing; he's a man who leaves his lighter side at home, hung up on the coat rack and ready to don when he walks back in the door at night. Sunny
Sunny's theory on Cullen: I like to think he loves hitting the clubs for a good boogie on the dance floor, complete with a ladykilling 'Saturday Night Fever' set of shiny flares. When he's not rocking away, he's a DJ for "Love Song Dedications". I can see it now...
Cullen is actually one of the characters who has worked and is improving more and more with time. Yes, I thought he was the most bland and expressionless character I had ever seen when he first graced our screens but time has shown him to have more and more depth. And this is proof- if you give something time and a chance to develop then it may turn out better than you first expect. Manda
Still water run deep. Gail
Kirsty's theory on Cullen He leads by inclusion, not by fear.
....the ruby-haired one..... Gail
Ah, so that's his get-out-of-Sunhill method -- banging his head against a wall, and chanting "There's no place like home"? jo_macq
All right, I'm hooked. Cullen is the eye of the storm that is Sunhill CID, the still calm at the centre. jo_macq
My thoughts on Cullen, erm....., well, my mind draws a blank which is ironic really because thats exactly how he comes across, plain dull and boring, nothing like his predecessor, the one and only DI Deakin, if I had to work with DI Cullen, what can I say? Don Beech (the Forummer)
I find Cullen very intriguing and, to me, he is one of the most believable of the new CID. He doesn't seem to be deliberately secretive or mysterious, but at the same time, we know virtually nothing about him. To me, it seems as though he has something in his past that he doesn't want the rest of Sun Hill to know about. However, he is a likeable person, he is competent at what he does and he is ethical. Laurab
Ordinary - Still intriguing and full of promise. We have seen some of his strengths and weaknesses emerging and his manner of dealing with his collegues is of continual interest. I hope that he will remain as likeable as he is now but if he grows to be dislikable I should hope it is with good reason and not at the expense of my entertainment. Extraordinary - I'm sure he'd take very good care of his pet dragon if he had one ;o) [I'm never going to forget that one Avon! :o)] Having just seen the movie Dogma I'm reminded of City of Angels and I keep wondering if maybe he's a retired angel.. Kacey
Cullen is an excellent character. Richie
IMO Cullen being uninteresting is exactly what makes him interesting. mj
From now on I think I'll only be tuning in when there's a decent chance of catching Ged Simmons, Hywel Simons or Chris Simmons. Orac
I think he is fantastic, he is a great copper who shows his feelings about the job. Allie
I saw him smile once a while ago and it was quite stunning-it lit up his whole face! So come on writers, let's see this Cullen transient event a tad more often.Diamonds will still be gorgeous even if their rarity is somewhat diluted!!!" Anon.
In regards to Cullen's smile- Diamonds wouldn't be diamonds if they were found on every street corner. Avon
He's an intriguing character with great potential. Avon
Someone who has no distinguishing features can't be classified. Ainsel
At least Cullen was gracious enough to admit that he was wrong and Smithy was right (for a change). I still think the writing for this character is inconsistent. He is meant to have a steady temperament, integrity and a professional manner, but they keep throwing the occasional wobbly and having him act more like some of the more unreliable characters for a short time, then he goes back to normal. It's annoying. Gail
What is it with the DI? He must never had read a P&P regarding discipling staff...either that or he needs about a gross of combantrin... Bluey
The DI makes me think of someone who is badly overdue to have his lower limb err...over something! bluey
A word about DIs past and present. As much as some people mourn Deakin, have you not noticed that Cullen makes a better manager/leader? Deakin was impatient, incompetent and more interested in currying favour with the brass than in allowing his people to do their jobs. He didn't support his people, he threw them to the wolves. Cullen listens to people, wants to hear their ideas and doesn't seem inclined to yank the rug out from under their feet as Deakin did. He is calm and sensible and doesn't go off the deep end (except at Debbie). Gail
Cullen is just a cold fish -yuk! (Hmmm-that could be an insult to fish...) Buzz
I think Cullen is a sort of 'nothing' individual. There's just isn't anything about him to either like to dislike. I wonder if his character will be allowed to develop or whether he's just there as a foil to the obnoxious Chandler. Jools
Ahh...I think those poor, deluded souls who think Alex 'still waters run deep' Cullen does not have a personality might get a nice surprise. Gail
I never thought I'd say this given my initial reactions, but Cullen was just about the only one who *worked*. Especially in recent episodes, he's even developed something approaching a style of his own, and shouted and even swore. Mike
Cullen has the potential to become a classic character. Dodgydon
I think he could be a great character if anyone bothered to write him a storyline! Blackcat
Only jellyfish don't have skeletons. Avon
He now reminds me an awful lot of Inspector Goole from JB Priestley's An Inspector Calls. Inscrutable, solid, massive in both presence and purposefulness, and definitely a mystery. He has some sort of power over people. After all, anyone who can make Debbie Macallister shut her over-sized gobbalot has to have some sort of power! It'll be very interesting to see what the writers have in store for him! Maybe he gets his mysterious abilities from all the biscuits he eats! Actually...that's a good idea for a fanfic! BH
Mystical - why is he the only senior management figure who sees right through the evil McAllister witch? Hmmm, I'm thinking maybe the force is with him. Annie
People mock Cullen because he is far too deep to be explained... but that's why I like him A mystery is far better when the love of the subject drives the explanations... Alli
DI Cullen A whole wealth of opportunity there. All previous DIs have more or less been the same on paper. Only the charisma and performances of the actors seperate Galloway and Burnside as distinctive people. Deakin was a likeable Burnside clone (updated for the 90s). Haines was a poor Burnside clone. Johnson, despite being black and female, was still essentially a gung ho, kick the door down, ask questions later DI. Cullen is a freshing antidote to Chandler. They're both modern day police officers, but Cullen a copper foremost and a politician second. There's potential in the Chandler/Cullen relationship and as we've seen in recent-ish episodes they're not as cosy as they originally appeared. If anything an interesting storyline would be if Meadows left and Cullen applied for promotion assuming Chandler's backing. Either he could be dismayed to learn that Chandler doesn't give it, or Chandler himself could be usurped by Mannion who'd put his own man into the DCIs chair. Either way it would make for an interesting work dynamic. Jamie
I think Cullen is also a very interesting character, a very insular man... I think he is a bit perceptive as well, I think when he looks at Debbie he recognises that she is a bit of a prat. And he probably realises that Meadows does have the makings of a decent officer. He looks serious yet laidback and won't go around abusing CID members for no reason, But I think that he is also very concerned about doing things properly and not letting any members of his squad work too much outside the rules. And on those occasions he seems to get really angry as though wanting to emphasise to them not to do it again. Sean

Once again, I'm left waiting in vain for the arrival of a Cullen breathing enough to hold my attention for more than two nano-seconds. Rusks could go to him for instruction on how to do a better brand of bland! ;-) Anna
I'd pick DI Cullen. He's handsome, brooding, subtle, and tough but fair. Richie
And as usual Cullen does his job, does it well and doesn't make a fuss about it... ainsel
Cullen being cool, competent and calm makes up for many things in The Bill. Avon
Cullen is a brilliant character full of the most intriguing shades and is also darned cute with the best upper lip in the business. Avon
I happen to like Cullen. tbgirlalways
Ged Simmon's theory on Cullen: I wanted to make him a bit of an enigmatic, mysterious character while still being a good, honest copper.
The Mystery of Ordinariness
Cullen and Chandler
He's a decent bloke. DC Duncan Lennox.
My favourite characters (include) DI Cullen, he is so cute and handsome, when can he arrest me? LOL. Mary C
Secondly, I have to say that Cullen is starting to grow on me. His dry and measured responses are always worth hearing - he does a good eye roll too ! Sapphy
There is something about Cullen at the moment, I'm not too sure what - I don't usually go in for his brooding, mysterious, enigmatic, kind of handsome.... Oh dear - getting carried away now! Laura
I am kind of starting to warm to Cullen *places hand to ear, waiting to hear Avon and Co.s' whoooosh* If I broke down his features (red hair, naff-ness, odd looking complexion, inability to express any other emotion excepting the 'Patented Cullen Stare') He reeeeeally isn't my type, but add them all together and turn the volume up (There is something about his voice, I could listen to is all day!) and I am definitely warming to him... Laura
I am starting to warm to Cullen. He was really attractive last night, Mmm the strong silent type, with body and brains... Jane
The rugger bugger has catfeet! To put it a bit differently, at the beginning the shadow glided into CAD and bided his time. jo_macq
I *did* like how Cullen sneaked in CAD...Very mysterious! Kaite G
>(There is something about his voice, I could listen to it all day!) It's a good voice. Not too high, so as to lack authority; but not too low, so as to be lost amongst the rhubarb of CID chatter. Jo (who has just had to add Cullen to the list of things competing for her full attention and meditation...)
Thought Cullen's usual serenity was a bit ruffled this week, what with one thing and another. Ainsel
Avon, bless your cottons, I never really had any thoughts about him at all until you kept insisting upon his understated greatness and then it dawned on me with a clunking great clarity that he is my favourite character off of TB, thank, you for saving my soul! Jools
He's great :D Muldoon
There's a lot of heat under that cool, calm exterior. MS
Cullen, handsome!!!!!???? In which species??? He looks like a cross between a bird and a goldfish (although I am inclined to think that the goldfish would be better looking and probably have more personality and charisma ) Fi
Perhaps not handsome - but cute, adorable, fascinating and infinitely lovable ! He doesn't look a like a cross between *any* non-human species! (Unless we're getting into Xenobiology and discussing Vulcans ;o)) He has has a great personality but is prepared to leave charisma to his mate Tom - after all it *is* about Rugby he has mystery and depth instead. Avon
I'm afraid the only "mystery" about Cullen is how he got a gig in the first place.... Fi
I particularly enjoy the way he can take things going wrong without needing to kick either the furniture or the nearest PC - just a quiet, unemotive Damn, they're going to lose them. Avon
I love the voice - it expresses so much using only the faintest shades of expression - and I really love the hint of north that creeps in some times. Avon
I like the way he doesn't throw tantrums - even though I have liked several of our tanty-throwers over the years. I like the way he doesn't race to blame uniform and I like the way he can mysteriously be in the right place at the right time. Avon
Cullen is the perfect 2IC. Never going to be the top person because he is not 100% into ego and self promotion. But the company would find it hard to survive without him, he actually runs things in a behind the scenes and "silent" way. Jane
Andrew Monroe, MK.11. He is in fact related to Monroe as you'll soon realise in a future episode. Began on the wrong foot but is now ingratiating himself into my affections. Tiptruck
He is about the only believable character left in CID. Aussiebillfan
LONG LIVE THE RED NUT!!!! Flossie
Cullen seems to have issues with estate agents, but like everything in his private life it wil remain a mystery. Ainsel
In terms of not following characters home, and focussing solely on their professional lives, Cullen has to be one of, if not the, most perfect character(s) The Bill has ever produced. So little is known about the character that there is so much room to make him whatever your imagination desires. Other characters have inconvenient canonical facts to get in the way... jo_macq
I was impressed with Cullen (and my sister had to endure me grabbing her arm and yelling "HIM!, HIM!!!!! whenever the enigmatic one came on screen. Laura
Cullen is also a master of a quiet humour that tends to go unnoticed. Ainsel
A Good DI

Cullen, of course, would read Rugby World or something ;o)... plus something more unexpected Avon

I already thought Alex was gorgeous, but really, he was so attractive tonight, even more than usual I thought. I recognised certain scenes that were captured by Mike and I noticed the mauve shirt Avon mentioned. It clashes with his hair, but he almost gets away with it Gail
I did enjoy seeing a rather different side of Cullen - that is to say, the irritable, edgy, obsessive-compulsive one that I always suspected was hiding below that calm exterior. Ainsel
