The Park A team from New Jersey, commonly referred to as a Mid-Atlantic state, in the South Atlantic League? Sure, why not? Baseball teams have sprouted up all over NJ in recent years, and Ocean County got its team in 2001. The Lakewood Blue Claws are a Class A affiliate of the nearby Philadelphia Phillies. This park is among my favorites, mainly because one can walk around the entire field and not miss any of the action. The view from the concourse behind home is unobstructed, unlike many parks built recently. There are 2 picnic areas, one down each line, the obligatory play area for kids with big things filled with air, and a beer area for the big kids in centerfield. New this year, and very cool, is a human bowling alley, in which you become the ball. Unlike some of the other parks that have opened in the area the past few years, such as those in Newark, Camden, Brooklyn and Staten Island, theres nothing to look at outside the park. If you like baseball, theres nothing wrong with that. |
