Machu Picchu 2003
above: This picture was taken from the train window on the way back from Machu Picchu. It was raining on and off while we were there and as you can see I am the hight of fashion with my silver rain slicker. Perry in his rain geer. It would not have been so bad but it was raining and it was hot out.
It was a long day. We got on the train at 6am and arrived at the town at the base of the mountain at about 9:45am. We had a 15 minute walk throught the town to where the busses loaded. The busses go straight up the side of the mountain zig zagging back and forth. The road you see to the right is part of the road we went up. What you are seeing is the flattest part of the road. The road was red clay and slippery. I did alot of praying on the bus.
The train above is the train we road. The engine is up under each car. They served us breakfast in the morning. The train on the right is the backpackers train. It has more room in it for cargo. The people who hike the Inca trail take this train. It is an older train and they pack more people in each train.
These two pictures are of Perry and I at about 6:30am waiting for the train to leave. We had to get up at around 4:30am to catch the shuttle to the train station and make it to the train for our trip.
