Out to Everest--Lukla to Namche Bazzar
Due to some additional waiting in the airport and cancelled flights, Joe and I took a chopper out to Lukla where our trek began.  The ride on the chopper was amazing... and we got our first view of everest to boot.
One of the many spectacular view of the Himalays on the way out...  I'm actually not sure which one was Everest since I didn't have a headset  : (
Cleared for takeoff?  Joe called shotgun...
Safe in Lukla with our very cool pilot.  He wouldn't let us wear the flightsuit...
Welcome to Lukla airport... the short runway is on a 18 degree angle, and ends on one side in a cliff, and the other into a brick wall...  scary!
Our First day we hiked from Lukla to Phakding...  a downhill 2 hour hike...  boy the trekking started out hard...  After that we did a 6 hour day to Namche Bazzare... here are some of the images from along the way
here I am in Phakding
from Phakding to Namche Bazzare...  is this place georgeous or what?
Some porters in Phakding... the porters carry up to 150K (rougly 300 lbs) up the mountain, and they use s strap on their heads... that's it.  They get paid by the pound, and sometimes break their necks (lirerally overdoing it)...
Most of them also wear flip-flops...  I had $100 gortex boots....
Joe and I on a bridge.... the bridges in these parts were these great steel suspension bridges.... three days from now they turn into boards with no hand support....
Waterfall on the way to lukla... still warm enough to dip our heads in here....
