| Namche Bazzar to Tengboche | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Namche Bazzare (3,446 m) is a bustling town on the top of an icredibly steep and long hill... we spent a 2 nights in Namche to start acclimitizing to the altitude... on our day "off" we hiked around the surrounding hills... (editor's note, Namche was also the last place I had a shower or changed clothes for the next 7 days... it was only adding layers after this) the 5 hour trek to Tengboche (4000m) was also a difficuly one, dropping a few hundred meters and then climbing up even farther. |

| In Tibetian Buddism, there is the Dalai Lama, and two other High Lamas... one is trapped in Tibet, and the other is in Tengboche. Joe and I met him... very powerful presence.... His story of becoming the lama stems from his being the re-incarnate of the previous abbot of Tengboche... when the child was 3, he started speaking and demanded to go to the temple... when he got there he knew everyone's name and all the old abbots possessions... |
