What exactly is Greek Life?

Friendship: A time when friendships are made and close ties are woven between members through living, studying, socializing, working, and competing together, these relationships go beyond ordinary friendships and become like a family, often lasting a lifetime.

Membership Recruitment (RUSH): This is the process for fraternities and sororities to add members. It is a time for interested students to learn about the Greek system's requirements and obligations. Even more so, recruitment is an opportunity to meet new people - those within the Greek system, as well as those looking to possibly join it just like you. Friendships are made even before you decide whether or not to join the system.

Membership: Students accepting a bid from a fraternity receive orientation throughout the chapter through meetings, education seminars, social events, and community service / philanthropic events.

Scholarship: College is the place for education and development. Academic success is stressed from all chapters from pledging to graduation. Sigma Chi holds its members to a higher standard than any other, requiring a higher GPA than any other organization on campus.

Financial Responsibility: Greek letter organizations have been self-sufficient since their inception. Fraternities and sororities support themselves, through dues and membership fees and a one-time initiation fee. While going through recruitment students will learn of these fees.

Leadership: Greek organizations are families with their own community that runs on a democracy. New members learn to live and work within this community. In this way, students learn responsibility and leadership skills needed beyond the college years. Greeks are involved and are often the most influential leaders on campus.

Community Service: Each chapter has a specific philanthropy to which members devote their time and money.

WHY SIGMA CHI?

The Sigma Chi Fraternity is one of the strongest and oldest student leadership organizations on campuses across the country, and offers experiences to meet every expectation. As a member, you will be provided with leadership, service, social, and academic opportunities. However, joining Sigma Chi goes beyond the chapter on campus and connects you to an organization and community that extends across the country. Life-long friendships, academic support, community service, pride and enthusiasm, and challenging leadership situations await you as you create your own experiences as a member of Sigma Chi.

The Iota Alpha Chapter here at Cal State - San Bernardino was chartered in 1987. Through the last 14 years, our brothers have been exposed to many life changing experiences and philanthropic events, campus fundraisers, athletics, leadership activities and scholarship opportunities. Cal States Greek System is made of four sororities and five fraternities, and Sigma Chi is a presence, which cannot be held back.
