C = Clubs

Villages, Cities and the local people in the States and in Germany are pretty much alike. If you want to make friends, you have to go where you can find people and be a friend first. If you sit alone in your booth in a restaurant or at home, well nobody is going to hammer on your door to meet you. I personally think it is easier to get to know new people in the States then in Germany.
Especially in the Southwest people have still a lot of the pioneer mentality. A lot of Clubs can be joined, depending on your interest and time.

I belong to the Roswell Woman's Club - we meet once a month and have a fun time together. We are also supporting the Eastern New Mexico University with scholarships for 3 recipients to be used toward continuing their education (already selected for the Fall Semester). The Club also supports the Southeastern New Mexico Historical Society; scholarships to woman for continuing education; the Roswell Public Library; and the Refuge for Battered Adults.
If my husband and I go out to a Restaurant or Saloon we sit usually first at the bar. You wouldnt believe how many fun people you get to know this way, when you have an open mind and show interest.
This photo comes from The-Antique-Shop.com - I couldn't get the locals to hold still for a "shot"
White Oaks Saloon and Dance Hall - Courtesy of Dolores Steele
This picture shows the Whiteoaks Saloon. Whenever we go camping and need a break, this is the place to go. The little town itself is a cute old Mining town with a long history. Billy the kid himself loved to stay here, although he didn't drink (I guess that is why he could escape so often the Authorities). If you visit Whiteoaks today you find a little Art community here. Really worth a visit!
