A Words
Activity Badges
Webelos activity badges are part of the Webelos advancement program. Each of the twenty (20) activity badges has a set of requirements that each Webelos Scout must meet, usually in den meetings. Certain activity badges are required to earn the Webelos badge and Arrow of Light.

Adult Leaders
Adult Leaders are the volunteers that lead the Pack and the individual Dens. Usually, the Adult Leaders are parents of some of the Cub Scouts. Refer to the Adult Leader page for more information.

Adult Partner
Adult Partners are adults who assist the Tiger Cub Scout in his development by helping to complete his Tiger requirements. The Adult Partner can be a parent, relative, or other registered adult over the age of eighteen.

Akela
Akela is the leader in Cub Scouts. Taken from the R. Kipling story, the Jungle Book, Akela is the leader of the wolf pack that adopts the man-cub Mowgli. In Cub Scouts, the scout is Mowgli. In the den, Akela is the Den Leader, in the pack its the Cubmaster, and in the homes its Mom and Dad.

Arrow of Light
The Arrow of Light award is the highest award in Cub Scouting and the only award that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.

Arrow Points
Arrow points are earned by Cub Scouts after they earn their Wolf or Bear badges. The first arrow point is gold and is earned after completing ten (10) electives; the rest are silver arrow points, one (1) is earned for each additional ten (1) electives completed. Cub Scouts can earn an unlimited number of arrow points.

Baloo
Baloo is also a the leader in Cub Scouts, assisting Akela. In the den, Baloo is the Assistant Den Leader and in the pack its the Assistant Cubmaster.

Bear Cub Scouts
The Bear Cub Scout is a rank within the Cub Scouting Program for boys in the third (3rd) grade or eight (8) years old. Requirements for obtaining the rank badge can be found in the Bear page.

Blue and Gold Dinner
An annual dinner to celebrate the cross-over (graduation) of the second (2nd) year Webelos to Boy Scouts. More information is on the Pack Activity page or the Webelos page.

Boy Scouts
Boy Scouting is the program for 11 to 18 year-old boys that furthers the development of the boy through camping, outdoor activities, skills development, and advancement. Boy Scouts belong to a troop.

Boy Scouts of America
The BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nationšs role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

C Words
Council
The Council is the BSA organizational unit above the district. For our Pack, the council is the Denver Area Council.

Cub Scouts
Cub Scouting has been in the Boy Scouts of America program for helping younger boys since 1930. It's a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first (1st) through fifth (5th) grades (or seven (7) through ten (10) years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions. (The others are Boy Scouting and Venturing.)

The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:

5. Family Understanding

Cubmaster / Assistant Cubmaster
The Cubmaster and the Assistant Cubmaster(s) are the leaders of a Pack. Within the Pack, the Cubmaster is Akelia and the Assistant Cubmaster(s) is Baloo.

D Words
Den
The den is the smallest unit in Cub Scouts, usually from six (6) to eight (8) boys. The den is lead by a Den Leader and an Assistant Den Leader. Additionally, the den may have a Denner, Assistant Denner, or a Den Chief.

Den Chief
The Den Chief is a Boy Scout working within the den to assist the Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader to plan and run den meetings.

Den Leader / Assistant Den Leader
The Den Leader and the Assistant Den Leader(s) are the leaders of a Den. Within the Den, the Den Leader is Akelia and the Assistant Den Leader(s) is Baloo.

Den Meeting
A meeting of the Cub Scout den, usually on a weekly basis. In the meeting work is done on rank advancement, games are played, crafts are made, and other activities planned.

District
The District is BSA organizational unit above the Cub Scout Pack and the Boy Scout Troop. A group of districts come together to form the area council. For our Pack, the district is the Valley District and the area council is the Denver Area Council.

Fall Roundup
Fall Roundup is the effort to recruit new scouts and leaders for the pack. It's held in the fall of the year when school starts up.

Pack
The pack is a unit in Cub Scouts made of from six (6) to ten (10) individual dens. The pack is lead by a Cubmaster and one or more Assistant Cubmasters. Additionally, the pack is lead by a Pack Committee made up of the Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, a Committee Chair, and any adult volunteers.

Pack Committee
The Pack Committee is made up of the Committee Chair, the Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmasters, the Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, and any adult volunteers. The committee is responsible for all aspects of pack activities, including fundraisers, awards, pack ceremonies, to name a few. The Pack Committee usually meets once per month.

Pack Meeting
A meeting of the all of the Cub Scout dens within the pack, usually on a monthly basis. In the meeting awards are presented, work is done on rank advancement, games are played, crafts are made, and other activities are held. See the Pack Activities page for more information.

Pinewood Derby
A pack activity involving the racing of small race cars made by the Cub Scouts. The cars are made of pine and shaped by the boys into any car design they wish, provided they meet a standard set of criteria for weight and size.

Popcorn Sales
Selling popcorn is the traditional fund raising program for the Boy Scouts of America. This program is made of two parts: booth sales; and door-to-door sales.

Booth sales is where the pack sets up a booth at a local store and sells directly to the public as they come to shop or visit. The pack must purchase a quantity of popcorn in advance.

Door-to-door sales is where the scouts take an order form around to neighbors, co-workers of mom and dad, and friends. The popcorn is delivered at a later date.

In both the booth sales and the door-to-door sales, the scout earns prizes based on the amount of popcorn sold.

Pow-Wow
An all day training class for Boy Scout and Cub Scout leaders held annually. The training consists of several classes in various scouting related areas, such as cooking, crafts, games, and ceremonies.

Roundtable
A district level meeting of Boy Scout and Cub Scout leaders designed to provide information, training, and fellowship. The Valley District holds its Roundtable on the first Tuesday of each month at The LDS Church on Malley (right across from Boondocks).

S Words
Scout Show
The Scout Show is an annual event held by the Denver Area Council of the Boys Scouts of America. All of the Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs gather together to present boths that express the ideas of the Troop or Pack. Some booths deal with camping and outdoor skills, while other deal with games that the boys enjoy.

Venture
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are age fourteen (14), and have completed the eighth grade, through twenty (20) years of age.

Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interests.
