Elvera was born five miles north and two and a half miles east of Magnet. She went to Hartington to school. She spent time at Magnet with her Uncle Jim and Aunt Mary McClure where she met Floyd. Vera takes care of some of the books for the Dawson Transport which they are in partnership with their son Dan. Vera enjoys doing fancy work and working out side in the yard. Floyd enjoys playing cards with his grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Lackas are both native of Magnet and have lived here all their married life along with their two sons Michael and Brian. Nov. 1965, Steve bought a straight truck and hauled cobs for three years, and then worked one year for Ellis Tilton and one year for Dawson Transport. In 1970, he bought another truck and hauled cobs and some livestock. In 1975, sold the truck and is now manager for Wayne Feed in Wausa. Peggy also works here in town at the school as janitor. Steve is also a member of the school board. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Christenson came from Grand Island. Moved here and retired in December 1974. The house they live in was once used as the old lumber yard office. Her kitchen window was the window that looked out to the scale in the lumber yard. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Millers bought the Charley Squire acreage. They moved from a farm near Laurel in February 1971. Lyle operated the county maintainer out of Magnet from April 1974 to April 1976. Their home was completely ruined by the tornado, plus some outside buildings. The Millers have two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Miller are our Bi-Centennial chairpersons. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bloomquist were married January, 1949, lived and farmed one and a half miles west of Magnet for five years. In 1954, they moved and bought the Fred Soost farm fourth mile north on the short cut road. They have eight children. Dale was born around Hartington but lived his childhood and manhood one and half miles south of Magnet. Their farm was hit by the tornado. It took the garage, two hog houses, cattle barn, plus fences and trees.
