Nell Person and her late husband Swede, purchased the grocery store from Earl Chrisman about the year of 1944. The same grocery store that is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Wintz. Oct. 1952, they bought the Snygg Store. Nell and her daughter Pat, ran the store a year after Swede died in March 1956, then sold it to Art O' Brians. Nell and Swede raised two daughters Patricia and Marilyn. Swede also had a lunch wagon. They went to all the fairs and farm sales. Sold hamburgers, hot dogs and coffee and pop. One time Nell remembered they sold over 30 dozen egg sandwiches at one sale. It was during Lent. That's a lot of egg cracking. Another thing the Person family had was a pop corn machine and made the best popcorn around especially on Thursday nights at the free shows. Mrs. Elsie Goodman came to town and rented the old telephone office in Jan. 1965 and made a very comfortable home. June 1972, her daughter Mabel Yunker bought it for her. Because of Mrs. Goodman's health she moved to Wausa to the Rest Home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wintz and two children, Mike and Michelle, came from Omaha. They own the Magnet Market and Variety Store. They live in which was at one time the brick bank building and also a cafe. Harold works for Yankton Auto Supply and Connie takes care of the store. She is a native of Magnet, born and raised one and a half miles south of town. She is the daughter of Katherine Bloomquist. Connie enjoys bowling and being out doors. Harold likes to work on cars. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lackas are owners of the Feed Truck. They came to Magnet from the farm in 1960. They raised three sons Steve, Randy and Monty. Monty was killed in the Vietnam War. Darlene works in Wausa at the Rest home. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon McFarland have four children and came back to Magnet in March 1975. Mary is Post Office clerk here in town and also works part time in Norfolk at the Post Office. Mary is a very talented free hand drawer. Katherine Bloomquist and her late husband Harold, lived all their married life here around Magnet except for a couple of years around Hartington.
