Navigating this Final Sandpaper Edition: What You Need to Know
--The Crystal Shores RPG Staff TeamDue to the important occurrences in the month past, this final issue is serving two functions: To give you, the player, the necessary information to continue the Crystal Shores Saga with your character and lead you to the launching of the next step of Crystal Shores RPG Gaming and familiarize yourself with the new land and its features; also, for your character to come upon a copy of this, so they can truly understand it all, what happened, and perhaps ask why..everything is here, and if your character got hold of one of these, (examples of how they've obtained them to follow in articles in this issue) there's a very good chance he or she survived the catastrophic ruin. For the month of December, the final transitions will be made, giving you time to decide if you wish to continue, and directions on how to proceed through the transfer.

What Happened?
--ExiledGMThe entire story of just what happened; what led to the Isle's destruction and the devastation of the lives the Colonists led is brought to you in the Events Section. In this space, I would like to address "What Happened", behind the scenes.
Twenty months ago, in March 2001, Crystal Shores RPG was created. Its premise was that of a medieval, dice-based, play by chat with a comprehensive website and chatrooms on the RPGworlds server, #Pleasuredome and #Terrordome.
The island was discovered by a young cartographer, Lord Axalon Carazzi, who was sent in search of a new land as the home of his family was being stricken by walls of fire and torrential floodwaters. The journey led him to a tropical, seemingly uninhabited island..the rest is history.
Through the twenty months, many occurrences that would've closed a weaker game happened. Staff from another game would enter and flood our rooms with harrassment and spam; they were evicted from the server. Three other games stole some works from our website, and were taken to task for the thefts. During all of the nonsense, rising above all of the garbage, a player base was formed. What surprised me the most was that Crystal Shores provoked strong reactions. Either one loved it or loathed it...there seemingly is/was no grey area. The player base alone, nor the Crystal Shores GMs (who have given more of themselves than any RPG staff I've ever given witness to) should not have had to shoulder carrying Crystal Shores through the dwindling traffic on the server host, however, nor were we about to cater to the "lowest common denominator" (i.e., lowering our standards and allowing those with 'issues', such as godmoding, trolls, those looking to disrupt for no good reason, known troublemakers, etc.) in order to bring more traffic in. The decision was made to, simply, move on: End the Isle of Crystal Shores and move on to the next leg of our journey, as well as move to a new server with more activity.
While we will always appreciate our time at RPGworlds, we were left with little choice but to switch servers. We now leave the decision to our players to join us in our new environment, or retire with grace. While we wholeheartedly encourage our best and brightest coming with us, we do understand feelings of loyalty and familiarity of a server that's been 'home' for extended periods of time. **Also: We don't expect any on the 'new' server to resume their old codes of unethical conduct in our new room; consider that fair warning that said behavior will not be tolerated.
If you'd like to join us, please contact the Help Desk after reading this Edition of the Sandpaper, to find out more. I thank you.

You Can't Take It (All) With You
--ExiledGM
In case you were looking for more information before sending an email about what's in store for you in our next step, I'd like to take a moment and explain what is and what is not transferable to our new game. This is a basic list.
Your XP and GP ARE transferable within the Crystal Shores RPG Gaming Network. But much of your possessions aren't. What do I mean by this?
On the Events page, you will see some notations, such as 'leaving by ship' or 'leaving by dragonback.' At initial registration, you chose a means of transportation. Horses and wagons aren't a viable option to leave the Island. The horses would drown if they even made it to the water, and weren't caught in the lava. Alterio Carazzi the Second, arrogant bastard that he is, couldn't dismantle Carazzi Manor, stone by stone, and have it put back together where he ends up..even if he wanted to. Houses, Keeps, Manors...all real estate is left behind. It was destroyed when the Isle fell. (This is not to say that future quests might not have diving excursions.) Your land-based livestock, unless you have room for it on your vessel (remember..you chose your vessel, if in fact you chose a vessel at all), perishes as well. In other words, if you've got a ship that sleeps four, you can't have ten people plus three horses aboard. If you've got a ship that sleeps four and wish to try and cram seven aboard, that would be permissible upon review by a GM.
It's a matter of you, the player, going to your character sheet and looking at the items you've amassed on behalf of your character. Can you fit all of those cases of liquors AND your complete wardrobes AND your personal armory AND everything else? Or do you wish to take what you can carry, the clothes on your back and some food and water? Remember how ridiculous "Gilligan's Island" was, when these people were on a small ship for a three-hour tour, yet had endless wardrobes and comforts of home...
Please ensure that fantasy doesn't become silliness, and that a difference of actual medieval fantasy roleplaying vs. being oneself, except speaking with an occasional "ye", wearing period clothes, and not having a car or truck at the ready, is observed. You've already seen in your travels the tiniest of women in dresses swinging claymores. We've shielded you from a catman whose eyes spewed green ooze, and much other nonsense..let's start the next segment right.

OOC: The Future of the Achethe Extension --AemeliaGM
In the November Edition of the Sandpaper, Dual-Citizens of the Isle of Crystal Shores and the Kingdom of Achethe:Court of the Condemned Souls were asked to affirm their citizenships. This was done as a matter of course, for IC and OOC purposes. IC, it would allow us to total your characters' base wealth (affording two residences, flight or sea travel expenses, etc.) as well as guide us in taking the next step in the transition of Crystal Shores RPG.
In doing such, decisions have been made to provide the following:
*Achethe will be back in its place, reverting to its original function as our "Mainland", meaning active roleplaying of being -from- Achethe, traveling to -there- or emigrating from -there- will be the focus; the Achethe Star Newsparchment will be discontinued as a single publication, and instead, news of Achethe will be in our new Newspaper in our follow-up game, The Broken Crier, to be released in this space on January 1, 2003.
*The Achethe Roleplay Board will be discontinued. Instead, a Crystal Shores RPG Players and Staff Interactive OOC Board, for players to bring questions, concerns, complaints, and OOC matters, has been established, please see CharminGM's corner on the Editor's Page for more information on that. You will no longer be obligated to roleplay separately for Achethe; you may incorporate this into the main field of play.
*The Achethe Area of the site will remain intact; you may still make purchases from Achethe to have them flown or shipped to your location; the only significant changes will be Achethe's own paper and its board.
If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the Help Desk, with a subject line of "Achethe, Att'n: AemeliaGM". Thanks.

Yeah, You Get a Pretty Badge if You Come With Us.. :: Smirks ::
--ExiledGM Now, you've learned by now that we don't give anything away in the Crystal Shores RPGs..that anything and everything is earned by our players and staff. Well, here's something that many of you are eligible for..Characters who belong to all four of the Crystal Shores RPGs: the Original Crystal Shores, now to be known as "Crystal Shores Lost"; Achethe; Fallen Realm; and our January 2003 release, Broken Saga, will get a nice little graphic designed by GMockery and myself, on their Character sheets. It looks something like this (On your character sheet it will be full size.):

ONLY active characters of all four games get this. It's a Isle Survivor badge as well as a showing of where else your character's travels have taken him or her to. Only those making it off the Island alive, or through a GM-Approved Awakening, will display this non-transferable badge on their character sheets. It is a sign of hardened experience and wisdom, and a source of pride. Enjoy it :)

And Introducing..
Fallen Realm RPG, Broken Saga RPG
--GMockery and ExiledGM
When the Isle of Crystal Shores was swallowed by the sea on 30 November, before the stunned eyes of former colonists, something was seen in the distance; the plates on the ocean floor were shifted by the volcanic activity and apparently, new territory was thrust upward to the surface.
Beginning December 1, all Crystal Shores RPG Activity can take place on the Crystal Shores Journal Board to chronicle the characters' stays on their respective ships. Do you dare to chart your course through the waters right now? Will there be aftershocks, another tidal wave? Do you drift awhile as you try to get your thoughts together, or do you panic as you watch your rations dwindle?
Your options, which are only limited by your imagination, could go several different routes:
*A return (or first-time journey) to the established Kingdom of Achethe. (GM Note: Which can be played on the CS Journal Boards; we will not be hosting an Achethe-based chatroom.)
*Journeying to the Fallen Realm, the Crystal Shores Extension designed/created by GMockery. If wishing a character transfer, you are encouraged to contact the Fallen Realm Help Desk, which can be found by exploring the Fallen Realm Site. Of course, you are welcome to create a new character for this level of gaming. You will find many (not-so-subtle) difference between the gaming you knew in Crystal Shores, vs. that which awaits you in the Fallen Realm, and for many, it will be found intriguing, challenging and just what you've been looking for, without consciously realizing it.
*Finally, another offering will be on January 1st, of the Crystal Shores Epilogue: Broken Saga RPG. While it is not our common practice to prerelease unfinished works, this is offered as a basal shell to give you time to get familiar with the operations of the Broken Saga. You are encouraged to check back frequently all through December with the Broken Saga Website to keep apprised of new content which you'll need to know, to navigate the new land.
With this, we ask that you visit the Events Page for more on the Fallen Realm, and if you've any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us. Thanks.
