We tend to break things down in this society into neat little compartments. National Cry for Children tries to do the exact opposite, because only by looking at the big picture will we end the nightmare our children suffer growing up. For this reason NCC refers to "fatherlessness" and "divorce" interchangeably. We realize that many children are now born out of wedlock, however this phenomenom was brought about by the increase in divorce in this country. Frankly, you can't tell one woman it is wrong to have a child out of wedlock, but tell another it is fine to have a child and get divorced six months later. The point is EVERY child should be raised by two loving parents in an intact home... the way it was intended. Since mothers get custody in divorce over 90% of the time, and almost 100% of the time in unwed births, the following statistical information refers to fatherlessness. |
