The Region of Bicol is where my family stayed as a missionary family in the Philippines. We lived in Legazpi and built our first church there. My parents build three more in Bicol, which are located in Putiao, Bacacay, and Matnog. Our fifth church, which is in Sta. Magdalena, is under construction. Bicol is know for the perfect coned shaped volcano, Mayon Volcation. Mayon facts and photos |

The Roman Catholics dominate the religious segment of the Philippine society. There are about 84% Catholics in the Philippines. This was mainly due to four decades of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. The Protestants are about 10% and the Muslims are about 4%. Large percentage of the Muslims in the Philippines live in the Island of Mindanao. The rest are assumed to be animists. From my personal experience, I found it hard to tell the difference between Catholic and Christian beliefs. I think that a lot of our new church members in Bicol also have a hard time telling the difference between their old and new religion. |
