HOW AND WHERE YOU CAN CHANGE TURKISH MONEY
There are many ways you can change money in Turkey;
- Banks
- Post Offices
- Change Offices
You can find a bank in every corner. It
will write " Bla bla Bankasi " . Bankasi means " bank
" in English as you may guess. Most of the banks will charge 1 or 2
percent of commision for their service and you may have to wait for a
period of time in the line for your turn.
Post offices have a daily rate which they recieve every
morning and in small towns you can try them.
Change offices are the best places to get your money changed
while you are in Turkey. At the entrance it might write " Dviz Brosu " =
" Change Office ". On one of the walls you will see the daily rates for
major world currencies verses TL. Most of them will give you the money on
the exact value of what it says on the wall. Others will again charge a
small tax like 1 percent. But what ever the case is they will be giving
you the most amount of money in comparison to the other two above. All the
Turkish people get their money changed through the change offices. And it
is not worth to walk back and forth to get the best currency on a hot
summer day. They will open around 8:30 am and close around of 6:30 in
summer days.
Most of the places take 1% commisson for travellers
checks.
As you have realised above there is not a certan rule
changing money. These are the general ideas of changing money and now lets
see where you can find some change offices.
If you are staying in
Hilton, Hyatt, Intercontinental hotels in istanbul you can try the change
offices on the opposite side of the road in front of Mac Donalds in Taxim
square. If in Polat hotel youcan either try the banks or wait for the
daily tours because no change offices around that hotel. Also in front
of St Sophia there is a Post office like a kiosk where you can also
change money or send your post cards. Very smart location. And next to it
there is the ATM machine where you can draw money from.!!
Most of the atm machines are cirrus in Istanbul.
