The first 4 places on the left can be finished in 1 day, I highly
recommend to hire a guide
for a full day and also get a cab for transportation. Dont let the cab wait
for you, it will cost you a fortune. You can find cabs in front of the museums all
the time.
Ephesus:

Ephesus is one of the most magnificent places on earth. A tour in
this open air museum would take around of 1.5 - 2 hours. You can take a local
guide to take you around at the museum entrance. It is recommended to
start the day from this museum and as early as you can. In summer the gates
are open in 8:00 am in other times around of 9:00 am , especially in summer times it is
very hot around lunch time.
There are two gates for the museum. Pick the one at the higher end which is the
eastern gate or the one on the road to Mother Mary's house. Nothing to be sold
in side, neither any washrooms at all , finish it up all at the entry, plus buy one
bottle of water.
One can easly finish one roll of film here as he takes photos. No steep
climbing except little bit at the theater entrance.
Mother Mary's House:

This place is 7 km up the hill from the upper gate of Ephesus. This is now a
sanctuary where according to the belief of people of many religious faiths, the Virgin
Mary lived her last days. The tradition is that John brought Mary to Ephesus after the
death of Jesus, in keeping with Jesus's admonition to John to care for his mother (Johnon
19:27).
( Tile conflicting tradition is that she died on Mount Zion in Jerusalem.) Also, John
being a common name, it is difficult to establish which man is being referred to in the
traditions. Both Pope Paul VI in 1967 and Pope John Paul in 1979 have celebrated mass
here. Many people congregate at this sanctuary every August 15 to observe the Feast of the
Assumption of the Virgin. The foundations of the house are old; they may date back to the
1st century; the rest of the building may be 6th century. It was first identified in 1818
by an Austrian peasant, Anne Catherine Emmerich, who saw it in a dream exactly as it was
found. The setting is beautifully peaceful, encouraging reverence and contemplation.
It takes around 30 min to visit. There is W.C before you enter the sacred area.
Cathedral of St. John:
This museum is on the hill above Seluk. You may reach there
by walking opposite of Seluk municipality. There is not too much to see left from
the original cathedral but still worth to take a visit. Do not miss the
geographical map,on your left handside after you enter and also on the slopy road up
little behind the cathedral is a model in a glass dome. That might also give you a better
idea of the original cathedral.
Not difficult to walk around anyone can do it, armchaired people may need help.
It has been partly reconstructed by the gifts of people from Lima,
Ohio.
This building in the shape of a cross was covered by six domes.
Under the central dome was the tomb of John.
It takes around of 45 min to visit. Poor W.C availability.
Archeological Museum:Closed
during lunch hours
This is one of the best archeological museums in Turkey. Most of the
findings from Ephesus has been placed in to the galeries here. You
should definately visit to understand Ephesus better. Nice museum shop with
a variety of different books for sale. Clean WC. Usually takes around of one hour to
visit.
Miletus, Priene and Didyma are on the same road to Bodrum towards south of Kusadasi.
Priene is the first one on the right hand side of the road 45 min of drive. Secondly comes
Miletus on the left hand side after another half an hour of drive and finally comes Didyma
about an hour later. on the way back you take the highway so it is even quicker to come
back. I would not recommend Priene too much if you have to cut out something. On this
day you must travel with a car. No buses or other transportation is available
at sites. Cheap entry fees for theses sites like worth a $ each p/p.
Priene:

You will reach to this once very import city after a steep road with rocks and stones
on your path way. Priene was laid out on a Hippodamian system of grid plan at the foot of
a spectecular cliff. This city is known to be the first grid planed city in the world.
There are four districts, the political , the cultural , commercial and religious
sections.
No washrooms, no shops. Takes around of one hour.
Miletus:
This open air museum was once a big city with a population of 80.000 people.
Famous trade routes has enriched this city in time. It was the home for many philosophers,
town planners and architects.
The site is at a wide area. One may start with the famous baths which will be on the
right hand side when you face the towards the theater. From there you should follow
the trail that will go to the back of the theater and there you will see the famous
harbour of Miletus. From there you can sneak into theater from the back openings and
enjoy the sceenery like once the Ionians did. So much to tell abut this place...
Quite a few number of shops at the entrance. Will take around an hour and a half.
Didyma:

Here comes another fantastic site , which is one of the Seven
wanders of the world. You will see a magnificent temple in enormous size of
pillars which was never completely finished. The famous oracle once prophised from
his rooms in the temple. The temple still upholds its fame in the world. You may have
lunch in this town and take a nap on the way back. WC and books around. Takes half an hour
to visit the temple.
irince Village:
This is a small Greek village where you may have a pleasant afternoon if you are
interested in; homemade wine and handcrafts, women selling table runners on the side of
the street , and delicious food and wine in the restaurant which was once a high school.
There is even a chance to climb up the streets and visit the houses or take a look at the
old greek churhes which is now abondened.
