Jon "Butters" Dumas, loveable and talented catcher for the Lyon Mountain Miners, has fallen under siege in recent months to accusations of steriod use.  One CVBL player, who asked not to be identified, put it bluntly: "If there was drug testing in this league, Dumas would have been suspended a year ago.  Everyone knows about it.  It's a running joke at this point.  Nobody gets that kind of power in that short a timespan without doping.  Nobody."  Dumas has largely ignored the accusations, but did offer Vanity Fair one solid dismissal: "Look, my friend [CR Tunes Mudhens pitcher Dan] Hoffman got me into weight training, and it paid off.  End of story.  Maybe the guys who keep running their mouths off about me should spend their time in the gym, like I do, every single day."  True or not, the steroid controversy has clearly tainted Dumas' nice-guy image, and it will be interesting to see how he'll be received by CVBL crowds throughout the coming season.
