Oh dear. 'Hens fans have doubtlessly long since given up hope of for the appearance of a final Views from the Roost column for the 2005 season, and with good reason: it's October, and the CVBL is currently about as far from everyone's minds as not working is from Dave's. Be that as it may, I felt I owed it to the fanbase to provide my best explanation, however tardy, of the collapse of the 'Hens. And so here I am, a few weeks shy of Halloween and smack-dab in the middle of any number of Rocktober radio promotions, talkin' baseball.
Of course, this isn't going to take very long. I remember very little about the last couple of weeks of playoffs at this point, which leaves me with very few options vis-a-vis the production of a full column. I could always just make everything up, which would be entertaining to the extent that any Mudhens story I created would almost certainly involve Dan Hoffman winning over an opponent not with his right arm, but with the boundless power of song. This, however, would also be somewhat dishonest, and if there's one thing this column is about, it's the shameless mimicry of honesty.
So I'll just give you the bare bones: the 'Hens beat up on Loreman's because Loreman's isn't very good, and then advanced to take on Lyon Mountain in the championship round. The first game went as planned, with C. R. Tunes whuppsing the Miners good to move within a game of the title. This, however, was as close as they would get, as Lyon Mountain registered an improbable two-game sweep the following weekend to complete a wholly undeserved championship season.
So that's what happened, sadly. Dave Davidson picked up regular season MVP, and rightfully so, but that was the extent of the hardware the boys brought back to Roger's this season. Nonetheless, it must be remembered that the 2006 campaign brings another shot at the prize, and a good one at that. The team will be a year older and wiser, and who knows what gems the team's impressive recruiting network will unearth this year. So stay tuned, gang. Hip hip hooray, here come the 'Hens.
